Versus Mode is an Extra Mode featured in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is a fast-paced PvP game mode that pits players against each other to see who can survive the longest. This mode was added to the game in Update v.1.5.

Versus Mode is a fast-paced PvP game mode that pits players against each other to see who can survive the longest. The mode includes local play, as well as an online mode that includes the ability to invite a friend directly or challenge a random online player:
- In local play, the game is played in a split-screen, with both players occupying their own area on the top and bottom of the screen.
- In online play, the player only sees their own screen, as well as a "shadow" version of their opponent.
At the beginning of the match, players enter a room exclusive to the match battle, where wave after wave of demons will begin to attack both players. Players will collect various bonuses and Souls as they defeat demons, which can be later spent at the central statue (shop) to upgrade weapons, armor or items. As play progresses and stronger demons spawn, the shop will restock with new lineups of equipment purchases.
In addition to weapons and armor, Souls can also be spent to purchase many temporary attacks and hindrances to negatively affect the opponent and put them at a disadvantage (like filling the room with fog, temporarily reversing their controls, taking away their ability to attack, etc). Because the player can see their opponent's shadow, they can choose to buy an attack at just the right time to have the greatest effect. However, once any of the two players make a purchase, it will no longer be available to either player, so it is advised to buy and time them wisely. On the other hand, items such as traps that give a disadvantage to opponents do not sell out, so each player can purchase them multiple times.
The player who survives the onslaught is the winner.

- Online functionality was added to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night in Update v.1.5 specifically for Chaos Mode and Versus Mode, to allow players to participate in co-op and multiplayer PvP. This feature is not available for other modes.
- Players may invite friends from their Friends list or be paired with a random player.
- Players must be on the same platform (Steam, GOG, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox or Switch) to connect and play. Cross-play is not supported.
