A demon with the ability to reflect like light.
~ In-game description from Ritual of the Night

Bathin is a recurring boss featured in both Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. He is a demon capable of exceeding the speed of light.

Appearances[]

Curse of the Moon[]

Holding watch over the mechanical library, Bathin has no interest in humans nor their written works.
Bathin has only a wry grin for their foolishness.
Capable of exceeding the speed of light and using its own body to attack, Bathin desires only to fight any challengers to its domain.
Bathin's desperate "Grand Cross" attack can accelerate too much, causing it to collide with its future self.

—Official description[1]

Bathin keeps watch over the castle's mechanical library (Defiler of Taboos) and is encountered when the party reaches the end of the stage. He uses extreme speed and electricity to attack anyone that hasn't gotten out of the way on time. Bathin's desperation attack, Grand Cross, ultimately kills him by causing him to accelerate to the point where he collides with his future self.

Ritual of the Night[]

Bathin is bizarre looking demon who appears to be an amalgamation of diverse creatures. He has a dark unicorn head protruding from his left pectoral and his tail is actually a living snake. A light green glowing substance can be seen running all through his body, which possibly is some sort of blood that fuels his superhuman powers. Due to all these traits, as well as because he is encountered in a laboratory, it can be speculated that he was artificially made, if at least partially.

Bathin acts as the boss of the Underground Sorcery Lab. His encounter takes place about midway through the level, in a large room where he uses a series of reflective panels to bounce off using his paranormal powers. He is extremely fast and most of his attacks also follow this trait.

Attacks
  • Briefly produces a multicolored energy ball in his hand and then launches himself all across the room in a horizontal rush, producing a tornado as he travels and damaging the player if they are in the way.
  • Tosses several energy bombs that scatter along the floor which erupt in tall columns of energy flames after a few seconds.
  • Makes a temporary stop and shoots a long laser beam from his snake tail. The ray is initially shot in a downward angle and then traces an upward movement.
  • Makes a temporary stop and uses the Reflector Ray, first tracing an intricate pattern of angled lines across the entire room and then launching himself as a ball of light across the beams at extreme speed, hitting anything that crosses his path.
  • Protrudes a plethora of spikes from his body if the player remains close to him for too long.

From all these attacks, perhaps the most dangerous is the rush, as even if he telegraphs it by first producing a ball of energy from his hand, it gives the player very little time to react (about half a second). Furthermore, he can perform this attack at any time and anywhere, even if he has just finished another attack or if he is close to an edge of the room and has the player cornered. As such, it's recommended to keep an eye for this attack at all times and prioritize evading it over everything else.

Another thing to look for during this encounter is that he sometimes can combine pairs of these attacks at the same time. For example, he can trap the player between the columns of flames under a low ceiling and then perform the rush or his snake tail beam attack, leaving the player no place where to move.

When he performs his tail attack, if the player is quick enough (and if there's space to do so), they may be able to jump over him and attack him from behind, scoring some free hits for the duration of the attack. However, the player should also be quick to move away from him after the attack ends, as if they remain close to him for too long, he'll likely perform his protruding spikes attack.

His Reflector Ray attack can either be easy or very hard to avoid, depending on the pattern of lines he traces. More so, because the player will have very little time to try to find a safe spot between all the lines before Bathin launches himself through them. The Directed Shield can completely block this attack.
