The Sword Whip is a Sword in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. While in the base game it is available as either a backer's reward or after purchasing the DLC "IGA's Back Pack", it is Miriam's main weapon in Classic Mode.
Characteristics[]
The Sword Whip is a Sword with a thin blade that has decent reach and which traces a blue trail when swung. Tapping the Attack button will make the sword to behave like any other sword; however, by holding down the Attack button, the blade will extend for ranged attacks. The more time the Attack button is held down, the longer the blade will be launched forward, with its maximum length being a little more than half the screen. When extended, the blade is revealed to be composed of segments united by what appears to be an elastic material, which further separate depending on the force of the swing.
The Sword Whip is rewarded by Lindsay for completing her "Avenge the death of Julius!" hunting quest, which requires the player to defeat the optional boss IGA in the Hall of Termination, inside Gebel's boss room. Since Gebel is required to be defeated first by usage of the Zangetsuto, the Whip Sword can only be acquired late in the game, despite the quest itself being able to be accepted during Miriam's very first visit to Arvantville.
Availability[]
- Arvantville: Rewarded by Lindsay for completing her Hunting Quest "Avenge the death of Julius!" by defeating IGA, which is available as either a backer's reward or after purchasing the DLC "IGA's Back Pack".
- Classic Mode: Miriam uses the Sword Whip as her main weapon, although in it the sword always extends a medium distance.
Notes[]
- In Classic Mode, the Sword Whip has a secret, more damaging technique, where the whip produces an electrical shock. To perform this move, hold Forward, press the Attack button, and then press Forward again.
Trivia[]
- This weapon is likely inspired by the similarly named Whip Sword from the Castlevania series (which in turn references that series' usage of whips as main weapons, especially the Vampire Killer). Furthermore, it behaving like a whip, as well as being rewarded after defeating IGA (a boss based on Koji Igarashi, former producer of the Castlevania series), who fights in a style very similar to Dracula in Castlevania, further support this reference.
