Raising the Grade of this Shard will increase the damage of one-handed Swords and Clubs. As the Rank is upgraded, the attack speed of the same weapons will increase.
Availability[]
- Dropped by:
- Sabnock (4.00%)
Crafting[]
The Sword Expertise shard is involved in the following crafts:
- Greatsword Expertise (×1 Sword Expertise (not consumed), ×1 Claymore)
- Katana Expertise (×1 Sword Expertise (not consumed), ×1 Dull Blade)
In other words, once you have the Sword Expertise shard, you can freely convert Claymores and Dull Blades into copies of the Greatsword Expertise and Katana Expertise shards, respectively.

| 5, 6, 7 | Blutgang ×1 |
| 8, 9 | Dáinsleif ×1 |
Tips on gathering materials[]
- Long Sword: Drops from Sabnock (8%) in Entrance. Bought for 2,700G and crafted for 3 Iron and 2 Bronze otherwise.
- Iron: Drops from Blood Grinder Knight (8%) in Entrance and Garden of Silence, as well as Dullahammer (8%) in Galleon Minerva. Found in blue chests in the Entrance.
- Bronze: Bought for 338G from start. Drops from Dullahammer (12%) in Galleon Minerva. Found in blue chests in Galleon Minerva and the Entrance.
- Blutgang: Crafted from 1 Crystal, 2 Platinum, and 1 Grotesque Shell after having found Fine Equipment/R in Hall of Termination, and can then be bought for 12,600G. One completed Blutgang can also be found in Hall of Termination and can be dismantled for 8 Alkahests in order to craft it back if you need to add it to the supply post and are missing its respective components.
- Crystal: Found in blue chests in later Forbidden Underground Waterway, Hidden Desert, Secret Sorcery Lab, Den of Behemoths, and Glacial Tomb. Can drop from Living Fossil (8%) in the Hidden Desert. If you are relying on using the entrance in the Hidden Desert to The Tunnels to rapidly farm a nearby blue chest for Gold, you will get loads of Crystal on the side.
- Platinum: Drops from Axe Outsider (5%) as early as the advanced enemy room above the "Sabnock chamber" in the Entrance, and later appears in the later portions of Livre Ex Machina, Hall of Termination, and the Forbidden Underground Waterway. Found in blue chests in the later Hall and later Waterway, as well as the later Dian Cécht Cathedral. Also dropped by Zepar (10%) in Hidden Desert and Inferno Cave.
- Grotesque Shell: Drops from Scythe Mite (6%) that occasionally appear in the upper portions of the outdoor screens of the west of the Towers of Twin Dragons by standing in the right spots for several seconds (the Eye of Horus can help them spawn). Can also drop from Mimic (8%) in Underground Sorcery Lab and later Livre Ex Machina. Finally drops from Blood Bug (10%) in Inferno Cave.
- Dáinsleif: Crafted by "upgrading" one Hofud using 1 Dragon Talons and 1 Dark Matter after having found Fine Equipment/R in Hall of Termination, and can then be bought for 27,000G. One completed Dáinsleif can be rewarded by Susie Quinn for submitting a Simmered Forneus for her nineteenth quest, "Craving Food That Falls Apart." This can be dismantled for 12 Alkahests in order to craft it back if you need to add it to the supply post and are missing its respective components.
- Hofud: Crafted out of 1 Sword Fragment, 2 Gold, and 2 Demon Fangs after having found Fine Equipment/R in Hall of Termination, and can then be brought for 19,200G.
- Sword Fragment: Drops from Bloodbringer (5%) in early Dian Cécht Cathedral, then in the advanced enemy room in the Entrance and in Hall of Termination.
- Demon Fang: Drops from Archdemon (10%) at Hall of Termination (including just outside its west entrance at upper Dian Cécht Cathedral) and the later, western portion of Forbidden Underground Waterway. Later drops from Rocky (8%) in Hidden Desert. Finally drops from Giant Bat (12%) in Den of Behemoths near the end of the game.
- Gold: Found in blue chests in Hidden Desert; an extra-fast endgame method lets you repeatedly open the blue chest right next to the portal stone leading to The Tunnels that opens up once you have entered the Den of Behemoths for the first time. Dismantling one for 15 Alkahests lets you craft its components back to add Gold to the supply post, where it will cost 15,000G. Other methods of getting Gold include dropping Ayamur from Glashtyn (4%) in western Forbidden Underground Waterway and dismantling it for 10 Alkahests into 1 Gold, and dropping Flame Mail from Volcano Morte (4%) in Inferno Cave and dismantling it for 18 Alkahests into 1 Gold (and several other materials). If you have added Gold Breastplate to the supply post (which requires crafting it after finding Gold Equipment/R in later Livre Ex Machina), you can buy it for 12,100G and dismantle it for 15 Alkahests into 2 Gold.
- Dragon Talons: Drops from Dragon (5%) in later Livre Ex Machina, and then in Inferno Cave.
- Dark Matter: Preparing this 1,300G food recipe involves gathering the easy materials Rat Tail, Toad Eye, and Witch's Tears, but also a Fell Leaf dropped by a Giant Moco (8%) in Den of Behemoths. Meanwhile, the Dark Elemental in Secret Sorcery Lab drops it at a 1% base rate. Far easier (and earlier) than either of these methods is to dismantle one of the above-mentioned pieces of Gold for 15 Alkahests, which will get you 10 Dark Matter.
- Hofud: Crafted out of 1 Sword Fragment, 2 Gold, and 2 Demon Fangs after having found Fine Equipment/R in Hall of Termination, and can then be brought for 19,200G.
