Stone - Ritual of the Night - 01

Stone, also referred to as Petrify or Petrification, is a damage type featured in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

After being hit by a Stone-based attack, the player will remain in a "petrified" state and thus be unable to move for a short period of time. The real danger of being put in this state is not actually being damaged by the attack itself, but to remain paralyzed while other enemies can still continue damaging them. An even more dangerous situation takes place if the player is petrified over a spike-filled area, which will end up inflicting heavy damage at a constant rate. It should also be noted that taking damage from enemies will not get rid of the petrification status.

The player will require to rapidly move the directional pad or wiggle the joystick in various directions and repeatedly press the buttons in order to slowly break through the stone and be able to move again.

The Stone element is not very prevalent in the Bloodstained series, though, and only plays a more relevant role in Ritual of the Night, which implements role-playing elements. Gargoyles can petrify the player with their glare. Haagentis can breathe a long petrifying cloud forward. In particular, Maledictions have a high chance to petrify the player on contact; these enemies can be found in certain rooms of the upper areas of both the Dian Cécht Cathedral and the Livre Ex Machina, especially in rooms that require precise platforming or that have dangerous environmental hazards, greatly adding to the threat they already pose. In Classic Mode, the Giant Dullahammer Head can fire a purple laser beam that petrifies the player if it hits.

Treatments[]

  • As mentioned, the most basic method to exit the Stone status is to either move the directional pad or wiggle the joystick in various directions and rapidly tap the buttons to break from this state.
  • Consuming a Stonethaw will instantly remove the Stone status. These are usually dropped by the very same enemies that inflict the status in the first place.
  • The Resist Petrification Passive Shard reduces the probability of being petrified after sustaining a Stone inducing attack. At a higher Rank, the higher the chance of totally nullifying the Stone attack. At a higher Grade (i.e., number of shards collected), the higher the chance of not being petrified.
    • If this shard is enhanced to Rank 9 and becomes a Skill Shard, the player will have a permanent +10 bonus to their resist Stone stat (as long as the shard is enabled).
