The Soul Eraser is a weapon for Zangetsu and a Key Item in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.
Plot[]
The Soul Eraser is dropped by Vepar after it is defeated in Episode 1 by the combined efforts of Zangetsu, Dominique, Robert and Hachi. Zangetsu is forced to claim it and use it in the coming battles, until he inevitably obtains the Zanmato either during Episode 2, or at the start of Episode EX.
If Zangetsu still has the Soul Eraser when he defeats Mephisto in Episode 2 Stage 8, he will recall scenes with Dominique that will cause his resolve to waver, leading to him wounding, but failing to kill, the demon, who launches a counterattack that leaves Robert and Hachi too injured to continue the mission.
If this occurs, Zangetsu will try to go alone, this time resigned to the fact that Dominique must be condemned to the same cessation of existence as Mephisto in order to destroy the latter. However, his salvation from this dilemma will come in the form of his previous allies appearing –Miriam, Alfred and Gebel–, delivering the Zanmato to him, and accompanying him on his journey to rescue Dominique in place of Robert and Hachi.
Gameplay[]
The Soul Eraser essentially switches Zangetsu's playstyle to his "Ultimate" mode, which enables him to execute a three-strike combo attack, and augments his sub-weapons, such as the ball-and-chain having a longer reach and an explosive effect, the magic charm becoming a Void Charm emitting a pillar of energy rather than a sphere, and the Demon Essence, now called Devil Essence, allowing Zangetsu to perform a mid-air rolling slash.
Trivia[]
- It is not possible to avoid picking up the Soul Eraser after it is dropped. If the player attempts to exit Stage 4 without it, Dominique will stop them, point at the sword, and mention that it could be useful going forward.
