Slide Miriam ROTN
If you have shoes equipped,
their attack power is added to your slide.
~ Loading tip from Ritual of the Night

Slide is a recurring gameplay mechanic featured in the Bloodstained series. Some characters can perform a slide maneuver, which is mainly used to go through narrow passages, although it is sometimes also useful in combat situations. In general, the slide is performed by pressing the Jump button while crouching on a solid surface (the command otherwise makes them drop to a lower surface).

Appearances[]

Ritual of the Night[]

The Hellhold and its surrounding areas contain many areas that must be passed through by sliding. Thus, all playable characters for the main campaign have such an ability, although they differ in how they perform it and what they can use it for.

Miriam can perform a feet-first slide from the start of the game. Sliding into an enemy deals a small amount of damage, equal to the standing kick that she performs as an attack if no weapon is equipped. If she is wearing Shoes, their attack power and attributes are automatically applied to her slide. This can make the slide an effective attack against very small enemies such as Toads, although it does not protect her from their attacks. Miriam's sliding distance can be increased roughly by +25% by equipping the Strider Belt. Zangetsu slides similarly to Miriam but can do so at a faster pace; as with Miriam, sliding into an enemy damages it slightly.

Bloodless cannot initially slide but must acquire the ability from the Blood Shard called Sliding, which stands next to her bathtub in the Dian Cécht Cathedral where the game begins. She slides belly-first in a motion similar to crawling. Aurora also slides belly-first as a child at the start of the game, but after growing back into an adult, she instead uses her wings to fly a short distance without touching the ground. Both of these characters take damage if they hit an enemy mid-slide and deal no damage in return.

Miriam can also slide in Classic Mode, unless it is set to 1986 Mode, which removes most special abilities. Dominique Baldwin cannot slide in Classic II: Dominique's Curse, as pressing the jump button while crouching instead makes her perform the Accelerator ram attack.

In Boss Revenge Mode, Bloodless cannot slide at all, and neither can the other boss demons that are playable in the mode: Andrealphus, Bathin, and Gremory.

Curse of the Moon and Curse of the Moon 2[]

Of all playable characters in Curse of the Moon and Curse of the Moon 2, only Miriam can slide. She does so in a similar manner to Ritual of the Night, although considerably slower. Her slide cannot be used offensively but is sometimes useful in evading boss attacks such as Focalor's Hydro Waltz. Gebel and Robert can instead pass through narrow areas by transforming into a bat and by crawling, respectively.

Trivia[]

  • The addition of this move in the Bloodstained series is likely borrowed from the Slide ability from the Castlevania series, where in some games it behaves almost in the exact same manner.
