The Sinister Skull is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
Once you win the Double Jump skill shard from Andrealphus in lower Livre Ex Machina, you can start encountering Shield Outsiders in the upper regions of the Towers of Twin Dragons, as well as the "advanced enemy room" in the Entrance and (through a sequence break) the upper regions of Dian Cécht Cathedral. However, methods of using accumulated Sinister Skulls do not start appearing until after you have defeated Valac in the Towers, which will reward you the Inferno Breath directional shard; at that point, you can spend three skulls on its first three ranks, thus increasing its coverage.
Much later, when you reach Inferno Cave, you can collect Demon Bones from Volcano Mortes. The final two ranks enhancements for Bone Toss (dropped by the much earlier Bone Morte) each take one Sinister Skull and one Demon Bone and help the tossed projectile reach its maximum size. Then, when you defeat the Orobas boss and win the Invert skill shard, you can spend three more Sinister Skulls on its middle three ranks to lengthen the invulnerability period you undergo whenever you invert the environment with it.
At the very end of the game, in the Glacial Tomb, you can get G Axe Outsiders to drop Fiend Skulls; two of those and two more Sinister Skulls are needed to elevate the rank of the early Summon Ghost shard to Rank 9. Doing so adds more bonus duration to the friendly Ghost summoned, allowing it more time to gravitate toward and bump into various enemies.
If you have the paid DLC "Succubus Cosmetic Pack" installed, the starting version of the Scythe spear-class weapon can be upgraded from its 23-ATK self to its second 30-ATK version by spending one Sinister Skull and one each of the easy early-game materials Obsidian and Oak. This is the earliest available method of making use of a Sinister Skull, and on Hard difficulty, it can be done even before fighting Andrealphus because an extra Shield Outsider will spawn in the bottom-left region of the Towers.
