Bloodstained Wiki

A scrap of cloth once worn by an especially awful demon.

The Sinister Rag is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

Sinister Rags are positioned as a midgame-tier material most easily dropped by the Leraje as of the upper, post-Reflector Ray areas of Livre Ex Machina. They can also be dropped by the Cyhyraeth, however, which appears as early as the first screen of lower Dian Cécht Cathedral; while it is especially dangerous as an enemy in such an early stage of the game, and its chance to drop a Sinister Rag is "only" 8% at base, getting one to drop at this stage will let you craft a midgame-tier Silver Breastplate very early. The only other material needed, the similarly midgame-tier Silver, happens to drop from the Bloodbringer enemy that can also be found in the lower levels of the Cathedral. The Silver Breastplate offers 27 DEF and 3 CON, which obsoletes many other early armors and only becomes easy to replace once you craft Polonaise out of Wool as of the lower screen of Towers of Twin Dragons.

One unit of Silver can be crafted into five rounds of Silver Bullets, which also happens to be usable in conjunction with Sinister Rags to advance through the final two ranks of the True Arrow directional shard dropped by the Leraje's earlier Barbatos cousin. This easy-to-use attack gains additional arrows per cast as it ranks up, and the availability of these materials means you can bring True Arrow to its rank-9 form (featuring five arrows spread in a frontal cone) in time for even the Craftwork boss. Incidentally, the Leraje itself drops the similar Chaser Arrow directional shard, which takes the same Sinister Rags and Silver Bullets to advance through its final two ranks.

As soon as you win Double Jump from Andrealphus in the pre-Reflector Ray areas of Livre Ex Machina, its dive-kicking technique allows you to explore the upper levels of the Cathedral early. You can use the same technique to reach the normally-late-game Very Fine Equipment/R recipe book, which will unlock the very defensive Hermit's Beret headgear for crafting. The materials besides the Sinister Rags that are required for crafting it include Sinister Eyes dropped by Poison Toads in the upper-left outdoor area of the Towers of Twin Dragons and the Demon Pelt dropped by the Gusions in the cages in lower Livre Ex Machina.

During and after the train ride sequence in the Bridge of Evil, the Assassin can drop pre-crafted Assassin's Vests at a 5% base rate. As a result, there should be no reason to craft Assassin's Vests yourself; in fact, each Assassin's Vest you pick up can be dismantled into two Sinister Rags and one Dragon Scale each (the latter being a drop from the Dragons in upper Livre Ex Machina coming up shortly). Though getting Sinister Rags to drop from Lerajes should be easy enough that dismantling Assassin's Vests for them should not be necessary, the option remains available.

Incidentally, once you have defeated the Bathin boss in Underground Sorcery Lab, you can gain access to the special Dead Lands zone by wearing the storebought Crown of Creation on an eastbound trip on the train, thus winning the novelty Familiar: Archer shard from the Breeder boss. Like other familiar shards, this becomes a "more powerful familiar" as it gains ranks, and while it primarily takes Dreadful Rags (dropped from the early-game Barbatos) to rank up through its eight ranks, Sinister Rags are additionally needed to advance through its final two ranks.

Once you find Fine Equipment/R in Hall of Termination, you can create a Snakebite whip as a slightly weaker, Poison-capable alternative to the Black Cords whip that you also can only start crafting once you find the same recipe book. In addition to two Sinister Rags, crafting a Snakebite takes one of the aforementioned Dragon Scales, three Demon Tails (dropped by Archdemons such as those that start appearing in the Hall of Termination), and two Strange Leathers (dropped by the Dantalions in lower Livre Ex Machina). You will want to create at least two Snakebites because the Whip Expertise shard dropped by the Lamashtu in Secret Sorcery Lab uses them as materials to advance through its final two ranks, and reaching Rank 9 in this manner will create the skill shard clone.
