The Sinister Eye is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
The Poison Toad is first encountered in groups in the upper screen of the left of the Towers of Twin Dragons, and thus its Sinister Eye functionally becomes available to harvest as soon as you win Double Jump from Andrealphus in lower Livre Ex Machina. The four primary shards this is used to enhance are the same ones the more basic Toad Eyes dropped by its earlier Toad cousin are used to enhance through their respective earlier stages. For example, the Gargoyle enemy in the lower level of Dian Cécht Cathedral can drop the Petra Ray directional shard somewhat early in the game; the beam projected will inflict petrification status that lasts longer depending on how much the shard is ranked up, and Sinister Eyes are used to advance it through to Ranks 5, 6, and 7.
When the later, western region of the Forbidden Underground Waterway is explored following the Bloodless boss, the particularly useful Seeker can be encountered northwest of the zone's west Warp Room and can drop the Detective's Eye passive shard. The only materials required to elevate its rank to the maximum are Sinister Eyes and the aforementioned Toad Eyes, as well as the Demon Eyes that the Seeker itself drops; doing so creates an incredibly useful skill shard clone that encases Miriam in an aura that automatically picks up all dropped items in range.
The next shard that gets enhanced by both Toad Eyes and Sinister Eyes is Lethargy, a directional shard which is dropped by the Amy enemy in Hidden Desert. The coverage of the Slow-inflicting beam increases as it is ranked up. In Glacial Tomb at the very end of the game, the Seeker's Tracer counterpart drops the Summon Tracer conjure shard, which summons a friendly Tracer that attacks along the ground in the direction it is facing. Its duration is increased as it accumulates ranks, the first seven of which take Toad Eyes and Demon Eyes as usual.
When you win the Double Jump shard, its dive-kicking technique allows you to explore the upper levels of the Cathedral early at the same time as when you can first scale the brunt of the Towers of Twin Dragons. You can use the same technique to reach the normally-late-game Very Fine Equipment/R recipe book, which will unlock the very defensive Hermit's Beret headgear for crafting. It can be crafted right away because its required materials are already available: the aforementioned Sinister Eyes, the Sinister Rags that are dropped by Cyhyraeths, and the Demon Pelt dropped by the Gusions in the cages in lower Livre Ex Machina. This means you can craft Hermit's Beret in time for the Valac boss fight.
