Simmered Forneus is a Food item in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Availability[]
Simmered Forneus is prepared through Johannes's alchemy menu in Arvantville, requiring Sugar ×1, Forneus Filet ×1, and Soy Sauce ×1 and also requiring Fish Dish/R to have been collected in Forbidden Underground Waterway with the help of Double Jump. The Sugar is bought cheap at the shop.
This is seen as an "endgame-level" meal because Soy Sauce is, for most intents and purposes, exclusive to blue chests that appear in the Oriental Sorcery Lab, making this one of many similar meals that unlock all at once if you only start collecting Soy Sauce by that point. However, if you use the "early Soy Sauce trick" to permanently add Soy Sauce to your item circulation much earlier in the game (by dismantling a free Uni Rice Bowl awarded by a very early quest from Lindsay, then crafting a meal that uses a Soy Sauce to add that meal to Dominique's Shop), then Simmered Forneus can be prepared and eaten as soon as you collect Forneus Filet dropped by Forneus (8%) swimming in the Forbidden Underground Waterway.
Reaching any Forneus Filet that a Forneus drops seemingly can only be first done when you get the Aqua Stream shard to drop a little over halfway through the game, which would already be a fair bit earlier than when Soy Sauce "should" become first available in the Oriental Sorcery Lab. Thanks to another trick, this meal can actually be cooked as soon as you collect Fish Dish/R with Double Jump; the Forneus you see if you transition from the drawbridge area at Arvantville to the upper-left corner of the Forbidden Underground Waterway drops Filets that can be reached without any special movement abilities if you coax the fish into the rocky enclosure to its right before slaying it.
Once one Simmered Forneus has been prepared, duplicates of it can be bought for 1,080G.
Usage[]
Simmered Forneus is a food consumable restoring 270 HP whenever used and giving a permanent bonus of +5 INT when first eaten. It is 8% more powerful and expensive than the High Potion, and you can carry up to 99 of it. The sizeable INT boost will be especially impactful if you have already acquired Soy Sauce through the trick described above, and all the more so if you have already acquired Forneus Filet much earlier than normal, allowing you to make and eat this meal as soon as you can Double Jump and reach the Fish Dish/R recipe book in the Waterway zone.
Simmered Forneus is also required for Susie's nineteenth quest, "Craving Food That Falls Apart", which rewards you with a Dáinsleif.
