Bloodstained Wiki

A short sword favored by soldiers.

The Short Sword is a Sword in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

The Short Sword is the first "slash-motion" weapon available to you, found in a green chest in the lower-right "cargo hold" area of Galleon Minerva not long after starting the game. Its Slash attribute makes it more "general purpose" than the anti-flier Thrust attribute featured on the starting Knife or the anti-plate Strike attribute featured on the starting Kung Fu Shoes. More importantly, the fact its +12 ATK increase is, in relative terms, significantly higher than the +8 ATK increases of those two weapons at that stage of the game makes it deal at least as much damage as the earlier weapons even in cases where those weapons' more specialized attributes capitalize on enemy weak points. The efficiency of its attack rate and lack of delay in its attack motion make it a good weapon to use against the boss Vepar if the stronger starting weapons found later in the Galleon (the Whip and Claymore) are too slow and cumbersome for your liking.

Unlike each of the other starting weapons that can be found while exploring Galleon Minerva at the start of the game, the Short Sword is not used as a material for crafting another item or enhancing a shard. Therefore, there should be no reason to ever craft another Short Sword on your own using 2 Bronze (found in blue chests in the Galleon and dropped by the Dullahammers in the area at a 12% base probability), let alone buy one.

If you want to quickly replace this weapon with one using the same swing motion, you can spend 2 Bronze and 3 Iron (dropped by Dullahammer and Blood Grinder Knight and found in blue chests in the Entrance) to craft a Long Sword. It is best to have the Long Sword drop directly from the Sabnock fought early on in the Entrance to save yourself the materials. You can also spend 2 Bronze and 1 Elm (found in blue chests in the Entrance as well) to craft a Mace, which is slightly weaker and uses the Strike attribute instead.
