Sariel is the true final boss in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2. He lurks in a fortress hidden inside the Moon, reachable only after traversing the depths of space onboard the Flying Armor.

Description[]

Unlike every prior final boss, there is no infinitely respawning extra life, so restocking lives requires farming enemies from prior rooms. The battle with him may work differently depending on which route the player had taken in the Final Episode.

If Zangetsu recruits at least one of his comrades and reaches the moon fortress, Sariel immediately reveals himself as the fight starts along with two active rabbit head-like objects.

If Zangetsu decided to tackle the Moon Fortress alone, the fight will start off with only two of Sariel's rabbit head-like objects. After the demon slayer has inflicted enough damage to the active one, one of his later-arrived comrades would sacrifice themself in order to eliminate a rabbit head. This process will repeat until Dominique arrives at the last phase of the fight to use her spear jump ability to help Zangetsu deal a critical blow to Sariel, effectively killing him.

In the game's Boss Rush mode (included after the v.1.2.0 update), Sariel's weak point will not appear in Hard difficulty until the rabbit head-like objects at both sides are knocked down. If one rabbit head-like object is reawakened, the weak point will be closed again.

Trivia[]

  • Sariel is named for one of the fallen "Grigori" (watcher angels) mentioned in the Apocryphal Book of Enoch, who was among those led by Samyaza to teach then-forbidden knowledge to the human race and sire children with their women, creating species such as the Nephilim or Anakim.
    • Sariel in particular, taught the humans the course of the moon, which makes his lunar associations in this game quite appropriate.
  • Sariel using rabbit-like creatures as his minions may reference the legends of the moon rabbits.
  • Sariel (Aramaic: שריאל) means "My Prince [is] God".
  • Sariel's face is featureless at first but later gains a gaping hole with blood dripping from it. It could represent how moon phases were once thought to affect menstrual cycles.
  • Interestingly, there are two variation of the endings, the regular one and the one achieved when playing as Zangetsu with no allies: when playing Solo, Sariel, and in the case of the second ending, even the moon itself, will be cleaved in two, while in multiplayer, both Zangetsus cleave Sariel, and the moon in the second ending, resulting in them being both cut into quarters rather than halves.
