Sanguinaries are types of demonic vampires commanded by Lord Elias and are enemies expected to be encountered in Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement. They must be vanquished in order to confront their leader, indicating that they will be fought as bosses.

A sanguinary is an adjective used to describe a person or an action that is bloodthirsty or murderous. The word is derived from the Latin word, sanguinarius, which is defined as "bloodthirsty" or simply "blood". Since vampires have an obvious thirst for blood, it's a fitting name for these enemies.
