The Monster Fur is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
The Simian can be encountered in the east outdoor screen of Garden of Silence and can drop Monster Fur, which can provide the first three duration-increasing ranks of the Summon Simian conjure shard the Simian also drops.
One item it can create, the Brigandine, can be awarded by an early quest offered by Lindsay for slaying two Sabnocks. It is useful both as an armor to wear for its stats at that early point in the game and as an item to submit to Abigail for the sake of completing her third quest, which will award three Pizzas. It is possible to enjoy both benefits of the Brigandine by first dismantling it, then using the same materials to craft it again, then buying a duplicate for 1,600G; this technically means you can handle Monster Fur quite some time before first encountering the Simian. By the time you reach the Simian, on the other hand, you will have had the opportunity to craft the far more powerful Silver Breastplate from ingredients dropped within lower Dian Cécht Cathedral; this means the Brigandine is only useful to wear for a short stretch of time leading up to exploring the Cathedral.
Another armor the Monster Fur also allows you to craft is the Kung Fu Vest, which is similarly outclassed by the Silver Breastplate you will have had the opportunity to craft earlier. This armor, which adds 2 STR, can also be found pre-crafted in a chest you can reach once you ride the stagecoach in the Garden of Silence's largest screen for the first time. There is no other use for the Kung Fu Vest, so you might be better off dismantling it to stock its two Monster Furs (and two Dreadful Rags, dropped by the Barbatos).
Monster Fur is perhaps most notable for being one of the materials that can be used to elevate the rank of three passive shards that vaguely improve survivability via bestowing resistance bonuses. These are the Resist Strike shard, dropped by the Puppy in the west station of the Bridge of Evil; the Resist Slash shard, dropped by the Scylla in the underwater portions of western Forbidden Underground Waterway; and the Resist Thrust shard, dropped by the Living Fossil in Hidden Desert. For the sake of creating their Skill Shard equivalents, each one requires three Iron Breastplates to rank from 4 to 7 (as well as three Bronze Chestguards to rank up from 1 to 4 to begin with, as well as two Steel Breastplates to rank up from 7 to 9; Steel Breastplates can be crafted as early as the eastern, early portion of the Waterway). This will require a total of 9 Iron Breastplates; to avoid spending 1,600G on each of them, you can craft them all out of a total of 9 Monster Furs and 18 units of Iron, but it can be seen as far more straightforward to get completed Iron Breastplates to drop from Buer Armors like the one near the east end of the Garden zone.
