The MP Max Up is a recurring upgrade item in the Bloodstained series. It increases the maximum MP of a character and also completely restores their MP meter upon pickup. Unlike most other items, MP Max Up upgrades aren't collected in the player's inventory to be later used on demand and are instead automatically applied on pickup.

Description[]

Den of Behemoths - Ritual of the Night - 04

A giant MP Max Up found in the Den of Behemoths.

The MP Max Up upgrade comes in the form of a large flask containing a blue liquid inside and with a couple of blue roses coming out from its top. When one is picked up, the player character's maximum Magic Points increase by +10 MP and also all their MP meter is instantly fully restored. These items are not collected into the player's inventory to be consumed later, but are instead auto-applied when picked up. They sometimes can be found on the field in the open, but most of the times are found either hidden behind breakable walls, inside of secret rooms, or in areas that take an alternate route to reach or a special action taken by the player to access.

In Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, picking up an MP Max Up upgrade increases the MAXMP stat of the playable character by +10 MP. There are a total of 30 MP Max Up items to be found in the game, for a potential attainable total of +300 extra MP.

In Classic II: Dominique's Curse, the MP Max Up is replaced by the Ectoplasm, which acts in the same way.

Availability[]

Ritual of the Night[]

Galleon Minerva[]

  • From the first Save Room, drop down to the bottom of the vertical room and destroy the right wall to access a secret room with a red treasure chest containing 1,000G and the first MP Max Up.
  • After igniting the fuse of the first cannon with Flame Cannon and destroying the left wall, in the next (vertical) room, drop down one floor and destroy the left wall to uncover an MP Max Up.

Arvantville[]

  • Head all the way to the right of this area; at the entrance that gives access to the Hellhold, flick the lever to lower the drawbridge; now, flick the lever again and quickly step on the tip of the drawbridge as it rises, and near the top jump toward the right to land on an offscreen ledge and pick up both an HP Max Up and an MP Max Up.

Entrance[]

  • In the large room with the first Sabnock of the game, head to the top and destroy the top-right wall to uncover an MP Max Up. However, the high ledge where this wall stands can only first be reached after obtaining the Double Jump shard, either by jump-kicking the Aello there to reach it, or just by jump-kicking Bu-chan[1] or Buer.

Garden of Silence[]

  • Once the Craftwork shard has been acquired, head back to the large room with the Coachman and the broken bridge; use Craftwork to grab and carry the pedestal blocking the way and climb up the platforms on the left; place the pedestal on the rightmost platform and use it as an impromptu platform to reach a ledge on its right, where an MP Max Up lies.
  • In the large bridge room that has the well that gives access to the Forbidden Underground Waterway, break the wall on the bottom-left corner to gain access to a secret room containing an MP Max Up and a red chest with 500G.

Dian Cécht Cathedral[]

  • In the first (vertical) room of the Cathedral (coming from the Entrance), climb up four floors and hit the wall on the right (up a ramp and guarded by a Poltergeist with the portrait of a backer wearing green; also opposite of the Shard Stand containing the first Shortcut shard) to reveal an MP Max Up.

There are four towers that comprise the upper section of this area (easily identifiable on the map and usually reached after obtaining the Reflector Ray or the Double Jump). The following instructions refer to them counting from left to right; that is, the "first tower" is the leftmost one, the "second tower" is the one right of it, the "third tower" is the following one, and the "fourth tower" is the rightmost one.

  • In the open air corridor that connects the first tower with the second tower, hit the roof at the center to destroy it - the MP Max Up is sitting on the left ledge, in front of a Silver Knight Shard Stand.
  • In the fourth tower, at its middle height area, enter the large bell from below to pick up a hidden MP Max Up (Invert or High Jump required).
  • At the top of the first tower, enter the large bell from below to pick up a hidden MP Max Up. However, the top section of this tower is separated from the rest by a floor and it can only be reached from the Oriental Sorcery Lab, likely making this MP Max Up one of the last ones the player will pick up in the Cathedral.

Towers of Twin Dragons[]

  • While climbing up the bottom exterior section of the west tower (the first one explored after entering this location), at the point with six collapsing platforms arranged vertically, follow the path on the right that is below the main upper path (either step on and drop from the top collapsing platform and then jump to the right path before the second platform collapses, or just follow the upper main path and drop from the opening that is in front of the Buer Armor); follow this path all the way to its end to find the MP Max Up sitting on a platform above a blue chest.
  • While climbing up the top exterior section of the west tower (reachable after obtaining the Double Jump), when nearing the top, head all the way toward the left to eventually reach a series of large gears; the MP Max Up is sitting at plain sight on a small elevated ledge at the end of this path.
  • From the spot described on the bullet above, jump onto the series of gears and travel all the way toward the right (also jumping along a series of collapsing platforms along the way) to reach the door that gives access into the tower; once inside, destroy the top-left wall to reveal an MP Max Up.

Bridge of Evil[]

  • In the passenger car of the train (where Zangetsu helps Miriam to get to the roof), climb on its roof and then jump-kick on Bu-chan[1] or Buer to climb on the offscreen roof of the large car on the left to find both an HP Max Up and an MP Max Up. Alternatively, during a following visit to this area, use either Reflector Ray, Invert or High Jump at this location to reach the roof of the left car.

Underground Sorcery Lab[]

  • In the final room of this area (which also connects to a Warp Room), on the bottom-left corner, destroy the piece of floor that is just in front of an HP Max Up to access a secret room below containing an MP Max Up and a green chest holding the Skull Necklace.

Forbidden Underground Waterway[]

  • Enter this area from the well entrance in the Garden of Silence; in the very first room, hit the wall on the top right (guarded by a Buer) to reveal an MP Max Up.
  • In the big waterfall room, the MP Max Up sits in the topmost cave nook on the right behind the falling water (right above the cave nook with a breakable wall that gives access to Benjamin's second hideout).
  • From the big waterfall room, head a couple of rooms left, and in the large horizontal flooded room, exit through the top central opening; in the next room, destroy the wall on the right that is guarded by a Shovel Armor to reveal the MP Max Up (the wall is opposite to a Save Room).
  • Enter this area by the blood fountain at the Entrance (drained with Blood Steal obtained after defeating Bloodless) and follow the only path until reaching a vertical room with the first Archdemon of the game and which also connects to a Save Room; descend to the bottom of this room and exit through the left path; descend all the way to the bottom of the next room and destroy the left wall to reveal an MP Max Up.
  • While first exploring the underwater areas of the Waterway (by usage of the Aqua Stream shard dropped by Deeseama), in the room with the star-shape arranged retractile metal spears, the MP Max Up sits in plain sight on the bottom-right corner.

Hidden Desert[]

  • Entering this area from the Forbidden Underground Waterway (most likely during the player's first visit), head all the way down the first (vertical) room, and on the next (also vertical) room, climb all the way to the top to find an MP Max Up sitting in plain sight.
  • From the room mentioned on the bullet above, exit through the left, and in the next room exit through the upper-left exit; right after entering the next room, let yourself get sucked in by the falling sand to a room below and destroy the wall on the right to uncover an MP Max Up.

Hall of Termination[]

  • In the very first room (coming from the Livre Ex Machina after defeating the Abyssal Guardian), destroy the upper-right wall to uncover an MP Max Up.
  • From the vertical room that connects to the Save Room and the Warp Room of this area (and that is prior the large staircase that leads to Gebel's boss room), climb all the way to the top and destroy the ceiling to reveal the entrance to a secret room above with many treasures, including both an HP Max Up and an MP Max Up (destroying the left wall also uncovers another secret room that houses the access to the 8-bit Nightmare stage).
  • In the room with the large staircase that leads to Gebel's boss room, hit the middle section of the staircase to make it crumble and this way gain access to the area underneath, which contains a couple of bookcases, an MP Max Up, and a Capacity upgrade.

Oriental Sorcery Lab[]

  • From the Warp Room of this area, exit through the top-left exit (past the Kamikaze); in the next room, destroy the wall on the left to uncover an MP Max Up.

Den of Behemoths[]

  • In the first very large room (below the floor with Alfred's death cutscene), drop to the ground floor and explore the central area; the (giant) MP Max Up is lying in plain sight next to the wall that divides the left and right sides of the ground floor.
  • In the second very large room (after Valefar's boss room), destroy the wall on the bottom-right corner (next to the well entrance) to reveal an MP Max Up.

Glacial Tomb[]

  • From the Warp Room, descend to the room below which contains an MP Max Up, a Weighted Ring hidden inside a breakable wall, and a green chest with a Crystal Armor.
  • Just outside Gremory's boss room, destroy the wall on the bottom-right (the wall is opposite to the boss room's door).
