The Long Sword is a Sword in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
The Long Sword is a "slash-motion" weapon with the general-purpose Slash attribute (better against "clothed" and "fleshy" enemies but not as good against "plated" enemies). Its 18 base ATK succeeds the 12 ATK of its immediate predecessor, the Short Sword found for free at Galleon Minerva. As a result, many players will want to quickly get their hands on this weapon by the time they are exploring the Entrance.
The game itself seemingly encourages you to craft a Long Sword as soon as you are introduced to Johannes' alchemy service because he will give you four Iron and four Bronze while describing his crafting service; you can spend three Iron and two Bronze to craft this. Both of these materials can be dropped off the Dullahammers local to the Galleon (12% for Bronze and 8% for Iron). In the Entrance itself, the blue chests randomly reward you with Bronze and Iron each time you open them, and Iron drops from the Blood Grinder Knight at a preferable 10% base rate.
Even so, you might want to hold off on crafting your own Long Sword at that point because you can get Long Swords to drop directly from the Sabnock in an early chamber in the Entrance at an 8% base rate. Since you can also farm Alkahests from the Ghosts elsewhere in the Entrance, you can Dismantle several Long Swords (for 3 Alkahests each) to get three Iron and two Bronze for each sword; this is a useful method of getting Iron in bulk, since a lot of the other gear Iron can craft is consumed in multiples as materials for important shard enhancements. By the time you have gotten the Double Jump and have gotten the Plunderer's Ring back in the Galleon using it, it should be much easier to get both Iron to drop from the Blood Grinder Knight and Long Swords to drop from the Sabnock.
The Long Sword itself is the material used to advance through Ranks 2, 3, and 4 of the Sword Expertise shard; since that is also dropped by the Sabnock, farming it for both the shard and the Long Swords is a worthwhile method of multitasking. This is to say nothing of how you will also be getting Obsidian and Steel to drop from it. Once you have found Obsidian Equipment/R in the early Garden of Silence, a Long Sword can be "upgraded" into its own immediate successor, the 22-ATK Ulfberht Sword, by using two Obsidian and two Houndskin (dropped by the Gieremunds in the Entrance). Once again, crafting an Ulfberht Sword of your own might not be the best idea because you can find a free Ulfberht Sword after battling Zangetsu later in the Entrance, and that sword is not used for a shard enhancement. Furthermore, the Gieremunds that can be encountered much earlier in the Entrance can drop the Ulfberht Sword at an extremely rare 1% rate. On the other hand, crafting one yourself is the only "easy" way you can get the sword in time for the Zangetsu fight.
