Livre Ex Machina is a location in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Progression[]

The Towers of Twin Dragons will initially restrict you to its southwest quadrant and force you out of that quadrant's upper west exit into the southeast corner of Livre Ex Machina. Specifically, you will end up in the lower third of it, and narrow gaps will prevent you from exploring the later two thirds worth of space above. At the south-center edge of the zone is the Cookies/R recipe. Just underneath the zone's warp room is the room of Orlok Dracule, who will let you borrow books that passively improve your statistics; he will add tomes as you pass the 50%, 60%, and 70% thresholds of your map exploration percentage. Most significantly, the southwest corner of the zone is the boss fight with the Andrealphus, which rewards you with the critically useful Double Jump shard. From here, the mandatory course of the game dictates that you return to the Towers of Twin Dragons and explore the rest of them.

If you have come across the machine blocking you from proceeding east through the Bridge of Evil, then one of Miriam's conversations with Orlok will mention her need for a Passplate. The next stage of the game consists of you finding the Silver Bromide in a gold chest after the Towers' boss, then going to Dominique in her shop at Arvantville to exchange it for the Identification, then bringing that to Orlok in exchange for the Passplate. That will be used to initiate the train sequence at the Bridge of Evil, which will then lead to the Underground Sorcery Lab, where the Bathin boss awards the Reflector Ray shard.

The Reflector Ray unlocks the rest of the Livre Ex Machina zone above, and by extension the Hall of Termination zone that leads directly to, and doing this to gather treasures and power is advised even though the "true path" of the current game mandates you go into the simultaneously opened-up upper reaches of Dian Cécht Cathedral. There are two separate instances of green chests being guarded by Dragons and holding Recipe Books — the Gold Equipment/R and Drink/R — and near the top of the zone is a "boss battle" with an Abyssal Guardian (which will appear later as a "standard enemy").

The upper left exit from Livre Ex Machina leads to the Hall of Termination, but there is also an exit southwest of that into the upper reaches of Dian Cécht Cathedral — but this hallway will be locked off from this side until you have defeated the Bloodless boss on the other side.

By the time you have reached at least 99% map exploration, Orlok will add the final tome, the Tome of Conquest, to his library. If you borrow it and then enter the Glacial Tomb, Orlok will disappear from Livre Ex Machina and fight you as a "superboss" early in the Glacial Tomb. Once you have defeated him, he will return to Livre Ex Machina and let you borrow all of the books in his library at the same time.

Other modes[]

Orlok Dracule is only present in Miriam's campaign, so Zangetsu, Bloodless and Aurora have no option to borrow books from the library. However, his music theme still plays in his study.

Zangetsu Mode[]

While it may seem impossible at first, the HP Max Up that requires the Reflector Ray can be obtained as Zangetsu. In order to get it, the player must perform a jump kick at the tiny space and then slide.

Bloodless Mode[]

Bloodless begins in her boss room west of this area, so she can explore it very early in a playthrough. A room in the upper east contains the Blood Shard for the Umbrella Toss. Due to Bloodless never acquiring a way to become immune to hazards such as spikes, some rooms can be really dangerous when exploring, particularly the one containing the Blood of Brutality shard.

Blood Shards[]

Aurora Mode[]

Despite its size, this area is not strictly necessary to explore in order to reach Aurora's true ending. However, it serves as a useful junction point between other areas, and defeating Andrealphus causes the Light Ray to increase in grade. Also, in the two locations where Miriam found the Familiar: Silver Knight Shard stands, Aurora can instead find Shard stands for Igniculus.
