Hold [Directional Shard button] to target enemies, release to blast them with radiant light.

The Light Ray is an attack, technically a Directional Shard, used by Aurora in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

Holding down the button used for Directional Shards causes a circular light to appear a short distance in front of Aurora. Any enemy caught inside the light is marked with a crosshair symbol, and when the button is released, all targeted enemies are attacked in quick succession with blasts of light. Each shot costs 17 MP, so the Light Ray will stop targeting enemies if attacking them would require more MP than Aurora currently has. A single enemy can be targeted multiple times if they remain in the light before the attack is unleashed. Despite its classification as a Directional Shard, the Light Ray cannot be aimed anywhere except straightforward.

The Light Ray can be enhanced using Confessions (a material only available in Aurora's campaign), which increases the number of shots that it can fire in a single salvo.

Availability and classification[]

The Light Ray is a part of Aurora's equipment from the start of the game, along with the Sword of Mathildis and her Familiar Igniculus. The pause menu labels it as a "Skill" separate from Conjure Shards and Familiar Shards, which it labels as "Shard" and "Familiar", respectively. Despite this, it functions like a Shard for most purposes and is listed as a Directional Shard in Johannes's enhancement menu, while lacking the aiming capability of Miriam's Directional Shards.

Additional Light Ray Shards are guaranteed to be dropped by the following bosses: Vepar, Zangetsu (first battle only), Andrealphus, Bathin, Bloodless, Alfred, the Doppelganger, and Valefar. Of these, only Vepar, Zangetsu, the Doppelganger, and Valefar are necessary to defeat in order to reach the true ending. However, all of them must be defeated for 100% completion, as that requires Aurora to achieve max grade and max rank for all Shards, including the Light Ray.
