An argent, lance-wielding knight.
~ Description from Ritual of the Night

The Lance Armor is an enemy in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

A hulking knight clad in heavy armor and wielding a lance. The Lance Armor can thrust his weapon forward to hit distant enemies, or just smash it on the ground to deal with closer ones. If the player is either one floor above or below him, he'll accordingly thrust his spear either upward or downward to stab them. This ability is purposely showcased in a couple of rooms of the Livre Ex Machina, where there is an empty room with a lonely chair in it and a suspicious-looking opening below it (not unlike the one in Orlok Dracule's library); unbeknownst to the player, there is also a Lance Armor on the room below; if the player sits in this chair, all they'll accomplish if getting stabbed from below by the Lance Armor. Likewise, the Lance Armor's ability to stab upward or downward is notably put into play while exploring the towers on the upper section of the Dian Cécht Cathedral, potentially being able to knock the player all the way back to the bottom.

The Lance Armor can also hold his lance with both hands and start spinning it in front of him to block incoming attacks.

Lance Armors can also be found along the bridges that connect the towers of the Dian Cécht Cathedral, often appearing among several other types of enemies like Simians, Lerajes, Gargoyles and Gamigins, where they mainly act as a shield to them.

Trivia[]

  • The Lance Armor's weapon and some of its attack patterns resemble those of the Knight enemy from the Castlevania series; mainly their incarnation in Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night, where these enemies come armed with a lance and whose design was reused in many following titles. In particular, the move where they use their lance to stab upward if the player is standing on a level above them seems to be borrowed from these enemies.
