A knife for self-defense.

The Knife is a Dagger in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

The Knife is a "thrust-motion" weapon that offers the lowest base attack increase of all non-ranged weapons, +8. Its Thrust damage attribute makes it better at taking out flying, winged enemies like the Aello than the other basic weapons found in chests throughout the starting zone of Galleon Minerva. The equally weak Kung Fu Shoes, which uses the Strike attribute, is better used against plated enemies like Cannon Morte and Dullahammer.

At the start of the game, the first cutscene in Galleon Minerva forces you to open a green chest that will give you a Knife and a Kung Fu Boots, which you then must equip one of. You will likely replace this with a weapon like the Short Sword, Claymore, or Whip that you can find easily before fighting the Vepar boss at the end of the Galleon. Following this, once you have established the hub area at Arvantville, you can easily find a free copy of the next stage of the "dagger series", Baselard, on the way to the castle drawbridge.

Sometime into your exploration of the Hellhold castle itself, you will start encountering Killer Barbers in Dian Cécht Cathedral, which will drop the passive Dagger Expertise shard that adds damage to daggers and rapiers. It takes three Knives in total to elevate its Rank to 4, but buying the other two Knives you need for 600G each is not recommended because it only takes one Bronze to craft a Knife, and Bronze is sold at Domimique's supply post for 338G per unit. Even this price is ideally avoided because "free" units of Bronze are easily collected from the self-refilling blue chests throughout Galleon Minerva and the early parts of the Entrance zone, and Bronze drops from Dullahammer at a 12% base rate as well.
