Heretical Grinder is a Directional Shard in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
On use, a massive version of a Blood Grinder Knight's Spiral Sword appears in front of Miriam's hand, dealing constant damage-over-time for as long as any part of it touches an enemy. The Shard's effect is continuous, meaning the sword remains as long as the player holds the button down, and moving Miriam's hand will rotate it around her.
It is highly effective at dealing with smaller enemies at close range and deals enormous damage to larger ones. The activation cost is 30 MP per second, making it a little tricky to keep up and running in the early game, but late on with MP regeneration bonuses from Foods and Shards like Words of Wisdom, it can easily get to the point where activating it is utterly trivial. Even a brief tap of the fire button will deal five hits with the Grinder for 3 MP.
Increasing Heretical Grinder's Grade improves its damage: at Grade 9 it becomes very high, particularly for its MP cost. Alongside True Arrow it is one of the most powerful Directional Shards in the early game.
Enhancing Heretical Grinder's Rank increases the length of the sword itself. The Materials required are all easy to come by in the early game, with the first six levels using the common metals Iron and Steel, and the last two using Sword Fragments, not requiring the player to have gone further than the Dian Cécht Cathedral, since a Bloodbringer is present in one of the main towers there alongside a Demon and two Gargoyles.
Availability[]
- Dropped by:
- Blood Grinder Knight (4.00%)
Heretical Grinder drops from the Blood Grinder Knight, the lowest-level Outsider enemy encountered in the Entrance and the Garden of Silence. It has a 4.00% base drop rate. There are several good places to acquire it, including right outside the Entrance Warp Room, where a Blood Grinder Knight and a Gieremund attack together, and a small side-room in the Entrance that contains a single Blood Grinder Knight and a hidden Ulfberht Sword.
Enhancements[]
Rank: Increases coverage.
| Rank | Ingredients |
|---|---|
| 2, 3, 4 | Iron ×1 |
| 5, 6, 7 | Steel ×1 |
| 8, 9 | Sword Fragment ×1 |
Tips on gathering materials[]
- Iron: Drops from Blood Grinder Knight (8%) in Entrance and Garden of Silence, as well as Dullahammer (8%) in Galleon Minerva. Found in blue chests in the Entrance. You can spend 3 Alkahests to dismantle Long Swords dropped by Sabnocks (8%) in Entrance to get 3 Iron (as well as 2 Bronze).
- Steel: Drops from Blood Grinder Knight (5%) and Sabnock (8%) between Entrance and Garden of Silence, then drops from Buer Armor (8%) in later Garden of Silence and the early portions of Towers of Twin Dragons and Forbidden Underground Waterway. The Shovel Armor throughout the Waterway drops Steel at a 10% chance.
- Sword Fragment: Drops from Bloodbringer (5%) in early Dian Cécht Cathedral, then in the advanced enemy room in the Entrance and in Hall of Termination.
Trivia[]
- Patch 1.04 slightly nerfed Heretical Grinder by decreasing the base ATK of the Shard from 19 to 15.
