Usage[]
Usable only by speaking to Johannes. Hemp is one of the Materials required for crafting:
- Toy Shoes (Hemp ×2, Durable Leather ×1, Rat Teeth ×1)
- Beret of Bravery (Hemp ×1, Strange Leather ×1)
- Witch's Hat (Hemp ×1, Witch's Tears ×1, Tome Scrap ×1)
- Gunman's Scarf (Hemp ×1, HP Rounds ×1)
- Bunny Scarf (Hemp ×1, Lili Tail ×1)
The Hemp is noteworthy among early materials in that each one you find sells for 375 Gold, and yet it can be found rather earlier than the other materials needed for the small collection of craftable items Hemp enables, with the exception of the single HP Round needed for Gunman's Scarf. When you can first farm Hemp, you will have need for a lot of money at that early point in the game. A Barbatos in the Entrance is conveniently placed right next to a save room and a warp room right before the boss battle with Zangetsu, and you can farm it both for its Hemp and grades of its very useful True Arrow directional shard. Completing Lindsay's early quest at around this time to slay four Gieremunds rewards you with five Hemp that you can immediately sell off for 1,875G total.
The Hemp is also noteworthy for being the material that unlocks the ability to craft an Apron at Johannes' laboratory, despite the Apron's materials being Cotton ×3. This makes Hemp the only item in the game that unlocks a craft, but is neither a recipe book or a material used in its transmutation.
A little later, you can open the two blue chests in the east portion of Garden of Silence placed roughly halfway between its warp room and the exit leading east into the Towers of Twin Dragons, which also feature two Hemp-containing blue chests you can open along your way to the room with three Poltergeists. It will only be by that point that you can gather the other materials needed to craft useful gear like the Beret of Bravery, Witch's Hat, and Bunny Scarf, and each of them takes only one Hemp when you likely would have gotten a fair stockpile of Hemp by that point.
