Bloodstained Wiki

The Guardian is a secret Easter egg boss in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is the boss of The Tunnels.

Description[]

A giant mechanical dragon (about the same size as the Abyssal Guardian) with metal hide and a searchlight cannon in place of a head. It shares most of the same moveset as a normal Dragon, but with a few additional attacks. Shared attacks include a claw swipe, a quick tail swipe, and burrowing itself underground and "swimming" forward. Since its entire body is made of metal, it is almost impervious to attack, sans for its cannon which acts as its only weak point.

The Guardian shoots a strong laser beam from its searchlight canon, which can either start from the top and redirect it toward the bottom, or start from the bottom and redirect it toward the top. The beam cannot be blocked, so it must be avoided as best as possible. While firing this beam, the Guardian will also shoot many smaller laser beams from the glowing junctures located along its neck, although these can be blocked (e.g.: with Directed Shield). Because the Guardian's body is made of metal, crouching in front of its legs and attacking while it shoots its beam (a common strategy used when fighting a Dragon breathing fire) won't have any effect; additionally, the smaller beams will always cover this area, rendering futile this strategy.

The Guardian also has an attack where it uses its searchlight to track the player; if caught by this light, the player will be cursed.

Once the Guardian is defeated, the player gains access to a room with a green chest containing the new item Mystical Scarf, which points out the location of nearby breakable walls, and if worn in the Hidden Desert changes its background music.

Notes[]

  • This enemy doesn't have an entry in the "Demons" section of the Archives menu. As such, it neither has an identifying number in the bestiary nor an in-game description.
  • Unlike most bosses in the game, there isn't a Boss Medal associated with the Guardian. Defeating it without taking damage won't earn a Boss Medal to the player.
  • The Guardian can only be fought once per playthrough and won't reappear on following visits to The Tunnels (unlike the Breeder, which is also the boss of a secret area added on one of the game's Updates).

Trivia[]

  • The Guardian is a crossover boss with the game Journey. It has a similar mechanical appearance and shares key behaviors with the antagonistic War Machines (also called Guardians) in that game, although in Ritual of the Night, it uses a reskinned model of the Dragon.
