Golgotha is a location in Classic II: Dominique's Curse. It is a cemetery at the northwestern edge of Limbo, beyond the lake that encompasses the Megiddo Depths and the Fallen City.

Description[]

This area features an environment similar to Tartarus on the opposite (southeastern) end of Limbo. The road ends at a cliff wall and aside from enemies, there is initially nothing to find or accomplish here. During the New Moon, these enemies include fast-moving Mortes and Celaenos that drop Gusions. The Dead Moon removes the Celaenos and Gusions but adds Ghosts.

The area becomes worth visiting once the Fancy Bag has been acquired in the Malebolge Gateway. Bringing the bag here triggers the appearance of a field Merchant who sells the Riga Dohin in exchange for Unholy Fire. After the purchase has been made, it is possible to buy the Unholy Fire back from the same Merchant without giving up the Riga Dohin. This Merchant is open for business during both the New Moon and the Dead Moon.

Trivia[]

  • Golgotha is a Greek name for Calvary, the site near Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified according to the New Testament. Jesus's crucifixion spawned the Christian tradition of marking graves with crosses, which is also done throughout Golgotha in Dominique's Curse.
  • The existence of the Merchant here is hinted at by a Lamashtu in Almadel, who deceptively refers to Golgotha as "a battleground far to the east".
