The Gold Breastplate gives a very good DEF 36, but no additional defenses. Additionally, it requires two hard-to-come-by Golds to craft, so the player may end up choosing other Body Armor options to acquire instead.
On the other hand, if the player wants a method of getting Gold material by paying money instead of relying on farming the blue chests in the Hidden Desert, they can craft this once to add it to Dominique's supply post, then buy copies of it for 12,100G and Dismantle it for 15 Alkahests, thus getting 2 Gold every 12,100G. This is far more economical than buying single units of Gold for 15,000G each.
