The Fiend Heart is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
In the Glacial Tomb at the very end of the game is the extremely tough Demon Lord enemy, which drops the Fiend Heart at a rare 2% base chance; this, on top of how much time it takes to down a Demon Lord, makes it rather hard to acquire a good number of Fiend Hearts, even though a total of 15 are needed in a game file that aims to have every shard maxed out. Since three of the four projects it contributes to are passive shards, Fiend Hearts are surprisingly relevant to having a fleshed-out skill shard collection.
Provided you have at least one Resist Thunder shard dropped by the Thunder Elemental in upper Livre Ex Machina, one Resist Fire shard dropped by the Fire Elemental in Inferno Cave, and one Resist Ice shard dropped by the Ice Elemental nearby, you unlock the privilege to freely convert up to nine Fiend Hearts into grades of the passive shard Resist Magic. This is essentially a minor form of all three elemental resistance shards at the same time, with similar bonuses to Light and Dark resistance as well, and all four elemental resistance shards can exist as maxed-out skill shards to heavily improve your resistance profile for endgame challenges (with all elemental hits having a small chance to be completely nullified on you as well). Ranking it up to 9 takes a total of 9 each of Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.
The Words of Wisdom passive shard dropped by the earlier Archdemon reaches rank 9 using two Fiend Hearts, after using three each of Sinister Heart (from the basic Demon) and Demon Heart (from the Archdemon itself) to rank it up to 7. Given both maximum grade and maximum rank, any MP-consuming shard or technique both takes less MP to cast and has a chance per cast to not cost any MP at all.
The Marbas in the preceding Den of Behemoths drops the Drain passive shard, allowing you to occasionally absorb HP on hit; the grade increases the likelihood it will trigger, and the rank increases how much is recovered. All eight ranks take one Sinister Fang each (dropped by the Demon), the middle three ranks each take one Monster Fang (from Buers) and one Monster Blood (from Simians), and spending two Fiend Hearts on the final two ranks unlocks the passive shard duplicate of Drain.
Compared to all of the above, the last opportunity to spend two Fiend Hearts is merely for the sake of ranks for Familiar: Dantalion in conjunction with the Tome Scraps, both of which are dropped by the Dantalion enemy in early Livre Ex Machina. The middle three ranks each take a Sinister Heart as well, and each rank results in a "more powerful familiar."
