Experience, abbreviated as EXP, is a statistic featured in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is a numerical value attained by defeating enemies, and represents in a numerical form the knowledge, as well as the physical and mental improvement a character has obtained after defeating an enemy.

Description[]

Experience (EXP) points are used to level up a character when a certain value has been earned. When the player levels up, the number of experience points needed to reach the next Level is polynomially increased over the needed amount for the previous Level. The amount of EXP points to reach is displayed in the Main Menu as "Next", along with a green meter above it that gradually fills in accordance to the EXP gained to visually display and more easily see how much EXP the player has gained and how much they need to reach the next Level. In addition, there is an "EXP" field that shows all the Experience points the player has gained during the entire course of the game.

Certain items can be equipped to increase the EXP Gain the player gets after defeating an enemy, like the Weighted Ring Accessory, which increases EXP intake by +27.5%; or if two are equipped at once by +55%.

Additionally, once the player has uncovered 60% map rate completion, the Tactician's Tome will become available for borrowing from Orlok Dracule at his library in the Livre Ex Machina, which also increases EXP intake by +20%. Once 90% of the map is complete, the Tome of Conquest will also appear in the library, which secretly increases of another 20% the EXP intake.

Familiars also gain EXP on their own after defeating enemies, separately from the player's own stats. Like the player, they will become more powerful and efficient in battle as they level up. Some Familiars will even change forms and/or develop new abilities when they reach a certain Level.

Experience points lose their purpose after the player reaches Level 99 (although Familiars will still keep on gaining EXP and leveling up on their own), at which point any equipped items that increase EXP intake will also become obsolete, so the player is advised to replace them with other gear they want.
