The Durable Leather is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
After reaching the east end of Garden of Silence, you can explore the ultimately optional eastern region of Forbidden Underground Waterway, where the local Decarabias drop Durable Leather at an 8% base rate. While you can immediately use them to create Toy Shoes (using Hemp dropped by the Barbatos and Rat Teeth dropped by the especially early Giant Rat), one is gotten as a quest reward early into Abigail's mourning questline (requiring a submitted Rhava Búral). You do not necessarily need more than that one Toy Shoes because it can be upgraded into a Bunny Boots, which is not used in its own crafting recipes or shard enhancements.
The item craftable with Durable Leather that is potentially very relevant in the long term is the Steel Breastplate, created out of two Steel (most commonly dropped by the Shovel Armors in the area) after finding Steel Equipment/R in the area. There are a series of three passive shards that vaguely improve survivability via bestowing resistance bonuses: Resist Strike, dropped by the Puppy in the west station of the Bridge of Evil nearby; Resist Slash, dropped by the Scylla in the underwater portions of western Forbidden Underground Waterway; and Resist Thrust, dropped by the Living Fossil in Hidden Desert. For the sake of creating their Skill Shard clones, each one requires three Bronze Chestguards to rank up to 4 and three Iron Breastplates to rank up to 7, and two Steel Breastplates are the materials required to rank each of them up to 9. To avoid spending 4,900G on each of the six Steel Breastplates eventually needed for these three skill shards, you can craft them out of a total of 6 Durable Leathers and 12 Steel. (Alternatively, you can get the Shield Outsider, such as the one right next to the warp room atop the Towers of Twin Dragons, to drop a completed Steel Breastplate at a 4% base rate.)
It is technically an option to use two Durable Leather, two Dreadful Rags (from the Barbatos), and a Ruby (randomly found in blue chests in the Waterway) to create a Flame Whip. The premise may seem appealing because three of these whips will eventually be needed as materials to advance through the middle three ranks of Whip Expertise, which can be dropped by the Lamashtu in Secret Sorcery Lab way later in the game. However, the Rul'sha encountered in the early, lower part of Livre Ex Machina drops the completed Flame Whip at a 4% base rate.
Another dubious crafting project involving Durable Leather is the Duelist's Guard, which requires finding Damascus Equipment/R in Underground Sorcery Lab and using two Damascus dropped by the Puppy in the area. On top of being rather weaker than the Silver Breastplate and Polonaise you could easily be wearing by this point, it will eventually be rewarded by Susie's eleventh cooking quest (which requires a Lemonade).
Once you have found Fine Equipment/R in Hall of Termination over halfway through the game, you can craft the Black Cords whip, an "ideal" whip to use until you start getting the Beast Killer to drop in Secret Sorcery Lab (coincidentally also by the Lamashtu). It will take three Durable Leathers, four Monster Bird Hairs dropped by Celaenos in the Towers, and the extremely easy early-game materials Moco Oil and Melting Skull.
If you have the paid DLC "Japanesque Cosmetic Pack" installed, a surprisingly beneficial use for Durable Leather is introduced: advancing the second version of the Japanesque Robe into its third version, with the only other material required being two Silver dropped by the Bloodbringer in lower Dian Cécht Cathedral. In the game as is, the Silver Breastplate can be crafted even before fighting the fairly early Craftwork boss in the Cathedral, and its 27 DEF and 3 CON makes for a far tougher armor than anything else available at that point. Once you have defeated Craftwork, reached the east end of Garden of Silence, and started fighting Decarabias in the Waterway, the Japanesque Robe can be upgraded to its third version to feature 26 DEF, 5 CON, 2 STR, 3 Slash resistance, and 3 Strike Resistance at roughly the same time you can craft the Polonaise out of Wool dropped by the Wolfman.
