The Dull Blade is a Katana in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
The Dull Blade is the first available weapon that uses the "katana slash" attack motion, with an appropriate Slash attribute carrying a damage bonus against various "fleshy" or "clothed" enemies but also a damage penalty against various "armored" enemies. The attack motion is slower and shorter-ranged than most "standard slash"-motion weapons like the Long Sword, and even the basic Short Sword — which has a decreased swing range comparable to a katana — only features 1 less ATK point than the 13-ATK Dull Blade itself.
The next katana-style weapon you can acquire, the Nodachi, sports 18 ATK and takes three Iron and one Bronze to craft; since both of these materials drop from the Dullahammers in Galleon Minerva at the start of the game, it is possible that you will already be able to craft that katana instead of the Dull Blade when you first establish the hub at Arvantville. If you don't have the Iron yet for the Nodachi, the Dull Blade itself is crafted out of three Bronze, and Bronze can also be found in the self-refilling blue chests in both the Galleon and the Entrance zone.
The Katana Expertise shard, which adds ATK to katanas and additionally improves their attack speeds while ranked, is noteworthy among passive shards in that you gain grades of it by crafting them yourself instead of getting them to drop from enemies. Possessing at least one Sword Expertise shard dropped by the Sabnock (4%) allows you to convert any number of Dull Blades into Katana Expertise shards, which makes getting all nine grades of it easier than getting nine copies of a shard that only drops rarely off an enemy.
That said, compared to other Bronze weapons that are used to either create or enhance passive shards, the Dull Blade takes three Bronze per unit instead of two, and it is also sold at the supply post at a comparatively steep 1,200G. You can have an easier time accumulating Dull Blades if you wait until later in the game because you will have both a much better LCK rating and at least one Plunderer's Ring to coax Bronze drops from Dullahammers with.
