The Dies Irae is a Greatsword in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
The Dies Irae is an "overhead-swing-motion" weapon whose healthy +57 ATK increase and general-purpose Slash damage attribute are accompanied by a unique blend of both the Light and Dark attributes. While this does result in the weapon being better against certain selections of enemies than weapons that are either Light or Dark individually, a fair number of enemies are weak to one of those elements but resistant to the other, cancelling out some of this weapon's potential usefulness.
Late in the game, the ability to craft Dies Irae is unlocked by finding Crimsonite Equipment/R in Oriental Sorcery Lab, which enables you to "upgrade" a Durandal using one Crimsonite found in this zone (either in blue chests or by drops from the local Ninjas) and one Fiend Fang (dropped by either the Marbas or Silver Wolfman, who tend to appear together in the Den of Behemoths near the end of the game). Note that the Dies Irae features 8 less ATK than the 65-ATK Durandal, which does not have any accompanying elemental attributes.
The Durandal itself is essentially acquired as a crafted "fusion" of the "three elemental greatswords" — Lohengrin, Schedar, and Steel Lightning — that is unlocked by finding Very Fine Equipment/R in upper Dian Cécht Cathedral, at a point where players who don't realize they can reach it early through Double Jump-based dive kicks off purple lanterns will have to wait until they gain Invert quite late in the game to reach it. Each elemental greatsword, in turn, is created by "infusing" a Gram with a Crystal and the corresponding "elemental ring" after finding Fine Equipment/R in Hall of Termination. Finally, the Gram is created out of easily-acquired mid-tier materials after finding Damascus Equipment/R.
The main purpose of crafting Dies Irae is that it is one "upgrade stage" away from the strongest heavy weapon in the game, Eternal Blue. The process takes 2 Orichalcum (found in blue chests in Glacial Tomb and rarely dropped from G Axe Outsiders) and 1 Imbrued Fang (dropped from the Millionaire's Bane sub-boss and found in blue chests in the Tunnels). Alternatively, a Dies Irae can also be upgraded into an Ukonvasara by "fusing" another Steel Lightning to it using one Orichalcum and a Cypress (found in blue chests in the Oriental Sorcery Lab and dropped by Giant Cannon and Gusion Cannon across the final two zones). Both of these upgrade paths are enabled by finding Legendary Equipment/R at a point in Hall of Termination that will require either Invert or High Jump to reach.
