The blackened heart of a demon.

The Demon Heart is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

Once you reach Hall of Termination, you can fight the Archdemon and get it to drop its Demon Heart. One immediate use for it is to help rank the Words of Wisdom passive shard (also dropped by the Archdemon) to Rank 7. Words of Wisdom reduces the MP spent by both shards and techniques by a percentage that scales with the number of grades you collect, and increasing its rank increases the likelihood that a given cast of a shard or technique will not consume any MP at all. Though the first three ranks only take a total of three Sinister Hearts dropped by the earlier Demon enemy, ranking it up to 9 and creating its very useful skill shard clone requires Fiend Hearts dropped by the final variant of the enemy line, the Demon Lord. This only occurs in the Glacial Tomb at the very end of the game, gating off your ability to grant yourself an MP-preserving bonus separate from what is equipped in your passive gem slot.

Demon Hearts can, however, be used to advance to rank 9 of the Upbeat Heat conjure shard dropped by the Tamako-Death fought a short time earlier in upper Livre Ex Machina, increasing the duration of the fire-spewing friendly Tamako-Death summoned. The middle three ranks take three Sinister Hearts, and all eight ranks take cheap-to-buy Gunpowders. The same situation occurs with the Bolide Blast directional shard dropped by the Bomber Morte a short time earlier than that in the Underground Sorcery Lab, with all eight ranks taking one Gunpowder each, the middle three ranks taking an additional three Rubies each, and the final two taking one Demon Heart and one Faerie Dust (dropped by the early Carabosse) each.

The Demon Heart also allows for the Dragon Armor to be crafted, since it uses four Dragon Scales dropped by the Dragons in upper Livre Ex Machina and a Platinum from blue chests in the Hall. While particularly tough for an armor at that point and offering 6 more defense than the Polonaise (which also offers 3 INT and 5 MND), you might prefer crafting a Spiked Breastplate at that same window of opportunity instead, which offers 3 more Defense and a unique damage-on-contact property.

Lastly, in terms of the core game, two Demon Hearts and one Queen's Tears (from the Tamako-Death) are two types of "supplemental" material used to "upgrade" a Silk Dress into the highly caster-focused Scarlet Dress. The "main" material intended to limit the dress' availability to the end of the game is the Dragon Heart dropped by the Abyssal Guardians in the Den of Behemoths. However, since it is possible for the lone Abyssal Guardian fought as a one-time boss in upper Livre Ex Machina to drop a Dragon Heart, it becomes possible (but difficult) to craft a Scarlet Dress as soon as you can craft a Silk Dress out of the Silk dropped by the Allocers in Hidden Desert.

Three DLC packs each provide an armor that can be elevated to its sixth and final rank using multiple Demon Hearts among their materials. The Half-Genie Outfit, part of the free Shantae-themed pack, gains 8 DEF, 2 STR, and 1 MND, but this can only be done at the end of the game because it also requires a Dragon Heart, as well as a Cashmere found between the Den of Behemoths and Glacial Tomb. By that point, you would probably want to craft the "traditional" ultimate body armor, Coronation Gown, using that Cashmere instead.

The Vampiric Skinsuit's final rank offers 41 DEF, 6 STR, and 10 Dark resistance and requires one Dragon Heart alongside three Demon Hearts, which means it can be created through the same one-time exploit as the caster-focused Scarlet Dress. Otherwise, it is not likely to be worn by the end of the game.

The Miri Dress, on the other hand, can be elevated from its fourth incarnation straight to its sixth as soon as you reach Hidden Desert and start gathering Silk because the sixth version's required materials only consist of Demon Hearts, the aforementioned Queen's Tears, and Demon Pelts dropped by Gusion enemies. It offers a potent niche in the form of 14 INT and 10 MND to offset its mediocre 38 DEF.
