For the enemy, see Demon.

Demons are an umbrella term for the wide variety of malevolent entities fought throughout the Bloodstained series, them being the primary antagonists.

Description[]

Demons are mostly wicked supernatural beings hailing from different and hostile planes of existence, such as Hell itself or Limbo. Despite being mostly ferocious toward humans, some may actually act cordial or just curious toward them, unless they are under the influence of Limbo's Dead Moon, the counterpart to earth's night, which drives all demons in a feral state. Demons come in many shapes and sizes, from well known races such as Vampires and Werewolves, to more obscure and strangely shaped ones. It is also possible for particularly unlucky individuals, such as Todd, to be transformed into demons by strong curses.

Regardless of their origin, any demon who managed to destroy a human soul is known by their brethren as a Hunter, marking them as a particularly powerful and dangerous individual. In general, Demons are strictly hierarchical, and will follow the orders of their most powerful, high-ranking members. Bael, the most powerful demon of them all, is as such called the King of Demons or the Dark Lord, and rules over all others alongside his Four Dukes of Hell. Leadership over demonkind is often subject to coups wherein someone defeats a powerful demon and willingly or unwillingly assumes their role; this can lead to rapid changes in the internal hierarchy, and in some timelines, has even led humans such as Zangetsu and Dominique Baldwin to become the corrupted leaders of large demon hordes.

When a demon is defeated, they often leave behind a crystalline object known as a Shard, which contains their powers and that particularly attuned humans may then use for their purposes; while it is unclear what this process does mean for the weaker individuals, the strongest demons have been shown to being able to resurface in their original demonic home even after relinquishing their shard and being supposedly slain, leaving it a mystery if there are ways to permanently kill demons at all.

Already widely dreaded in legends as dangerous, after the Alchemy Guild, with their misuse of the Liber Logaeth and the sacrifice of the Shardbinders, actually managed to summon a massive horde of demons in the human world, who then caused with their superior strength and magical abilities a gigantic massacre all over the known world, the demons have become a feared presence for humanity more than ever; as such, even a decade after the event, both independent Demon Hunters such as Zangetsu or Robert, and organizations such as the Exorcists employed by the Church, such as Dominique Baldwin, still actively track down and exterminate any demon remaining in the human world, as well as work to prevent another demonic invasion to take place, which is something a particularly powerful demon, such as Gremory or Sariel, or a human under their influence, like Gebel, may actually manage to accomplish.

Appearances[]

Ritual of the Night[]

Main article: List of enemies in Ritual of the Night

There are a total of 127 "demons" listed in the in-game Archives, a few more if counting the ones that are not listed in said Archives, such as the Breeder, the Giant Dullahammer Head from Classic Mode, and the Guardian. A 128th demon boss, IGA, is added to the list upon purchasing the "IGA's Back Pack" DLC and defeating him. It should be noted that a select few of the enemies encountered are not actually true demons at all, such as Zangetsu, Alfred, Gebel, and Dominique.

An additional unlisted enemy, Miriam herself, can be met as a boss only while playing as Zangetsu and in Boss Revenge Mode.

Only Miriam can earn Boss Medals from the 20 (21 including IGA), main bosses of the Hellhold castle. Also, both common enemies and bosses have altered drop tables when playing as either Zangetsu, Aurora, or Bloodless: both Zangetsu and Bloodless do not receive any kind of drop, as they either already have all of their abilities to start with or they receive them elsewhere, while for Aurora, only a select few enemies drop Shards, and only once per species to boot, while most of the bosses drop a Light Ray Shard.

Dominique's Curse[]

Main article: List of enemies in Dominique's Curse

There are a total of 48 demons met in Limbo, nine of which appear as bosses. It should be noted that, due to the lack of an in-game list of names, some of the names of the enemies given here were assigned by an educated guess, and may not reflect their actual, proper name down the line. Some enemies only appear in certain phases of the moon, like the inhabitants of the various towns gone feral; Barbatoses, Mimics and Deathtraps also appear, but only as helpful NPCs, and never as enemies. All enemies have the chance to drop Remains, either horn-shaped ones with the value of 1, or heart-shaped ones with the value of 5; during a Dead Moon, the latter option becomes more probable, but the enemies also have more health and hit harder.

Curse of the Moon[]

Main article: List of enemies in Curse of the Moon

There are a total of 57 different demons met in Curse of the Moon, nine of which are bosses. It should be noted that, due to the lack of an in-game list of names, some of the names of the enemies given were assigned by an educated guess, and may not reflect their actual, proper name down the line.

Curse of the Moon 2[]

Main article: List of enemies in Curse of the Moon 2

There are a more than 97 different demons met in Curse of the Moon 2, ten of which are bosses, with some of them being rarer to spot due to only appearing in specific locations. It should be noted that, due to once again a lack of an in-game list of names, some of the names of the enemies given were assigned by an educated guess, and may not reflect their actual, proper name down the line, particularly for the demons met during the Flying Armor segment in the Final Episode. There are at least 29 different "Space Demons" met during said segment, plus a giant one that acts as a boss, the "Moon Guardian".
