The Deathbringer is a Greatsword in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is one of the "8-bit weapons", which can all be made with one 8-bit Coin each and can be upgraded into "16-bit" and then to "32-bit" versions of themselves using one 16-bit Coin and then one 32-bit Coin each.
Description[]
The Deathbringer series stands above most other 8-bit weapon series thanks to both its especially high ATK ratings and its trait where landing a hit causes a follow-up explosion that hits for a little over 25% of the damage immediately after. This, along with its Fire attribute, makes it a clone of the Lohengrin. The Fire attribute is strong against a fair swath of the game's bestiary, primarily the more fleshy enemies among them, though it is resisted by armored enemies. This is similar to the Slash attribute also used by the weapon, which causes the two attributes' weak points to stack and make the weapon overall particularly blunted against armored enemies. As an overhead-swing weapon, it is quite easy to build up the Greatsword Expertise passive shard to enhance its damage early on, and then create the shard's skill shard duplicate roughly halfway through the game.
The free 8-bit Coin hidden near Arvantville's hub can be converted into the 26-ATK version of the Deathbringer to give yourself a weapon that is arguably better than the 29-ATK Flamberge that you can only start crafting shortly before the Zangetsu boss battle in the Entrance. Upgrading it into its 16-bit version requires a 16-bit Coin that takes 24,000G, which is an intimidating price point throughout the game's earlier stages and is hard to swallow even going into the game's later stages. Nonetheless, it must be stressed that this price tag is the only roadblock that stands in the way of getting the 16-bit version, which can otherwise be gotten anytime after getting the 8-bit version. The 16-bit version's 52 ATK puts it practically in the ballpark of endgame-tier weapons, especially considering the extra damage caused by the swing's subsequent explosion, and it already has 9 more ATK than the mid-to-late-game-tier Lohengrin.
While exploring the Hall of Termination for the first time, you can find and clear the bonus 8-bit Nightmare zone, which will cause a chest containing the first 8-bit Nightmare material to appear. This will allow you to spend an utterly exorbitant 64,000G on a 32-bit Coin and use the two materials to upgrade the 16-bit Deathbringer into its final 32-bit form, which sports an extremely impressive 75 ATK. This is the second highest ATK rating on any weapon in the game, behind only the Eternal Blue, which the Deathbringer can be argued to be roughly as strong as because of the additional explosion essentially making it 25% more damaging than listed.
