The Moon's Lament, alternatively called Luna Secare, is the ninth and final stage in Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.

Overview[]

The stage begins with a special flying sequence, where the group, or alternatively only Zangetsu, pilots the newly constructed Flying Armor towards the moon, mowing down any member of Sariel's space demons army that try to stop its course, including a giant space dragon-like monster. After a rather rough landing, the now damaged Flying Armor is able to take its passengers to the entrance of the enemy's stronghold.

Because Sariel's palace is on the Moon, the gravity is greatly reduced, causing characters to jump higher and to fall more slowly. As expected of a final stage, the area is rife with the strongest enemies in the game. It is also worth noting that unlike the final bosses in previous episodes, there is no Life Up in the room prior to the boss. This means on Veteran or higher, there are greater stakes to losing against Sariel, unless the player chooses to farm the enemies in the previous rooms.

Stage variations[]

As with Stage 8 of the previous game, this stage undergoes changes depending on if the players arrive just with Zangetsu, or if they have at least one ally with them:

  • If Zangetsu is alone, then the base projectile shot by the Flying Armor will be changed by the Daizangetsuto into powerful slashes, while also being able to use the available sub-weapons of all the other party members, despite being usually limited to the ones belonging to the members re-recruited.
  • In Co-Op Mode, two Flying Armors will be flying into space, with a shared pool of extra lives.
  • The stage's title is changed from "The Moon's Lament" to "Luna Secare". Luna secare is Latin for "[to] cut the moon".
  • Sariel's room is altered so that several rabbit head-like creatures would lay down on each other, stacking up as they are defeated to allow Zangetsu into a position just short of being able to strike Sariel's head, requiring Dominique to use her pole-vault spear to launch Zangetsu close enough to land several hits before coming back to the ground.
  • The ending after Sariel's HP is depleted is also different: Sariel detaches from whatever he was merged with and flies into space. Hachi readies his Steam Hover while Dominique perches on the suit's top. Zangetsu must stand on Dominique's shoulders to trigger the ending, where Hachi blasts off, Dominique pole-vaults to rise even higher, and, while Alfred, Robert, Gebel, and Miriam, pely Sariel with a barrage of attacks from their sub-weapons, at the height of Dominique's jump, Zangetsu leaps off of her while charging his super slash, which cleaves Sariel and the very moon itself in twain due to the upgrades of the Daizangetsuto. The credits roll immediately after, with no ending text or scenery.
  • In multiplayer, both endings are different, as both Zangetsus cleave Sariel, and in case of the second ending, even the moon, resulting in them being cut into quarters rather than halves.
  • Defeating Sariel with only Zangetsu will unlock Single character mode, a feature that allows to choose a single one among the eight playable characters to go through Episode 1.
