Curse is a damage type featured in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is a status ailment that instantly halves the player's HP and MP.
Description[]
Certain enemies in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night have the ability to Curse the player; these usually are of ghostly or otherworldly origin (like the Cyhyraeth). Alfred and Gremory also have attacks where they launch homing dark fireballs that curse the player. Kunekune and the Guardian can also curse the player by looking at them, the former through its simple gaze and the latter through a searchlight.
When the player has been Cursed, their character model will become engulfed in a reddish-black fiery aura and both their HP and MP bars on the HUD will instantly get locked at half their capacities (displayed as metal bars that occupy the right halves of each bar), regardless of their current Level; as such, the player will temporarily lose their ability to use these resources, putting them in a disadvantageous position for suddenly being at half their health and at risk to die in just a few more hits, and also for not being able to fully use their magical abilities to defend themselves. Fortunately, the Curse condition lasts a relatively short period of time before it wears off by itself. Once this happens, the player will regain the same HP and MP they had before they were inflicted with the condition.
Treatments[]
- The most basic method to cure Curse is just to wait until the effect wears off by itself, which happens after just a few seconds.
- Resting at a Save Room will instantly cure the Curse status, fully regaining both HP and MP bars.
- The Resist Curses Passive Shard reduces the probability of being Cursed after sustaining a Curse inducing attack. At a higher Rank, the higher the chance of totally nullifying the Curse attack. At a higher Grade (i.e., number of shards collected), the higher the chance of not contracting the ailment.
- If this shard is enhanced to Rank 9 and becomes a Skill Shard, the player will have a permanent +10 bonus to their resist Curse stat (as long as the shard is enabled).
- Bloodless is immune to Curses both as a boss and as a playable character.
