The Coachman is a non-playable character in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. He is a man who drives a horse-drawn coach.
History[]
As his name implies, the Coachman is in charge of riding a horse-drawn carriage in the Garden of Silence, where he can be found not long after entering the area. While he retains all faculties of a normal human being, such as the ability to reason and speak, his physical appearance resembles that of the undead. Nonetheless, he is friendly to Miriam.
The first time he is encountered, he and his horse stand stranded on one of the edges of a broken bridge, unable to move forward due to a heavy stone pedestal that is blocking the way. He explains this to Miriam when talked to, leaving her with the task of finding a way to remove the blockade and clear the path so she can book passage with him and be taken to the other side of the chasm to continue her search for Gebel. The player can do this by defeating Craftwork in the Dian Cécht Cathedral, which will award them with the eponymous Craftwork shard, a Manipulative Shard that allows its user to summon a giant Craftwork hand to move heavy objects from place.
Once the shard has been acquired, the player can return to the Garden of Silence and with it move the blockade. The Coachman will then allow Miriam to hop aboard and carry her to the other side free of charge by jumping over the chasm. The Coachman will then allow her to board the carriage to take her to either side whenever she needs to.
Quotes[]
- "What you need is a giant hand. Giant hands do giant things... said no one in particular ever."
Trivia[]
- The horse that pulls the coach is a unicorn version of the Gamigin.
- The inclusion of this character in the game is likely inspired by the Ferryman from the Castlevania franchise.
- Furthermore, after the blockade has been removed, he says: "I'll take you to a place which might be interesting for you.", which is a line said by the Ferryman in the original English PlayStation release of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
