A common, two-handed greatsword.

The Claymore is a Greatsword in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

The Claymore is the first available weapon that uses the delayed "overhead swing" attack motion. Fittingly, its 17 ATK is higher than any of the other weapons that can be found through the initial exploration of Galleon Minerva at the start of the game. It uses the Slash attribute that can be seen as "general-purpose" and carries a bonus against various "fleshy" or "clothed" enemies, but it is blunted against various "armored" enemies. The next overhead-swing weapon, the 22-ATK Pelekus, can be crafted at Arvantville from 2 Iron dropped by enemies like Dullahammer and Blood Grinder Knight.

The Greatsword Expertise shard, which adds ATK to overhead-swing weapons and additionally improves said weapons' attack speeds while ranked, is noteworthy among passive shards in that you gain grades of it by crafting them yourself instead of getting them to drop from a specific enemy. Possessing at least one Sword Expertise shard dropped by the Sabnock (4%) grants you the privilege of repeatedly converting Claymores into Greatsword Expertise shards. This makes getting all 9 grades of Greatsword Expertise easier than a standard shard, especially if you wait until later in the game to start accumulating them, because you don't have to slay the same enemy over and over to get duplicates of the shard to occasionally drop.

The Claymore itself is not difficult to acquire copies of because it costs only 600G to buy, and crafting one yourself only takes two Bronze. This material is randomly found in the blue chests in Galleon Minerva and Entrance that refill themselves whenever those zones are exited and reentered, and it also drops from the Dullahammers in the Galleon at a rather high 12% base rate. Farming Dullahammers for the Bronze needed to craft all the required Claymores will be significantly more tedious if done at the first opportunity, but it will be much easier by the time you have defeated Andrealphus about one third through the game and earned its Double Jump shard. Not only will you have a lot more LCK by that point, but you can also find and equip the first Plunderer's Ring in the Galleon with the help of Double Jump's dive kick, which makes item drops significantly more common.

Usage[]

While Claymore is equipped, Miriam's attack becomes the "greatsword overhead swing" with a +17 ATK boost and the Slash attribute. Any techniques on other G-Swords that are mastered will be passed onto this.

Claymore is a material used to craft the following shard:

This means that, as soon as you get a Sword Expertise shard to drop from Sabnock in the Entrance, you can convert nine 600G Claymores into nine copies of the Greatsword Expertise shard, allowing Miriam to use G-Swords with a significant damage output improvement for most of the entire game.
