Celeste's Room is a location in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It is one of the four backer Secret Rooms in the game.
Overview[]
Celeste's Room is found on the upper section of the Livre Ex Machina, below the Abyssal Guardian's boss room and just down and to the left of the top Save Room. Like the rest of the Secret Rooms with blue doors in the game, it can only be accessed with a special key found somewhere within the castle; in this case, Celeste's Key. However, unlike the rest of these rooms, there is no secret boss to be fought inside, it only serves for recreation.
The room contains five music boxes that can be activated by standing in front of them and pressing Up on the controller, allowing to listen to their melodies. Any music boxes can be activated or deactivated at any given time, allowing the player to listen to their combined pieces if desired. There is no secret that can be uncovered for playing the boxes in a particular order or combination; the room is just for relaxation and to take a break from battle.
Near the center of the room is a table with two green chairs, one on each side. If the player sits in any of these, the ghost of Celeste (who appears in the shape of the player character) will slowly start to take form sitting in the other. This is just for amusement, though, and the ghost will neither give anything nor can be interacted with in any way, and it will instantly disappear the moment Miriam stands up again.
At the left end of the room is a big framed canvas with the portrait of the most beautiful calico/tabby/tortie mixed cat. Her name is Chasey.
Trivia[]
- This room is a backer reward from the Kickstarter campaign of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
- It is one of the four backer Secret Rooms in the game, along with the Carpenter's Room, Warhorse's Room and Millionaire's Room.
- Celeste is the name of the ghost that appears in the other chair (and not the name of the cat in the frame, like commonly believed).
- The name Celeste was derived from the instrument of the celesta, which means heavenly or celestial.
- The kitty in the portrait is named Chasey, who passed away during development.
- An attempt was made to get the room name changed to "Chasey's Room", but email communication wasn't answered for months at the time and it was deemed too late by the time the request was responded to.
- The ghost that appears on the other chair was inspired by the confession room found in the Royal Chapel in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, where sitting on either side of the booth would summon a ghost on the other side (with either good or wicked intentions).
- Elaborate ideas to embellish this ghost appearance were communicated to the team, but were not developed, most likely due to the fact that if there were more game elements in this room, the other three Secret Room backers in this tier would have been right to expect the same attention to detail. Given that development was both troubled and lengthy, these matters were not pressed any further.
- Since Secret Room backer rewards also included an enemy design, Koji Igarashi gave the choice of having that enemy appear in this room for a boss fight in the same way that the other three Secret Room backers chose to feature their enemy designs. However, the backer of this room opted for his enemy design (Blood Grinder Knight) to appear as a regular enemy in the game.
- The music box tracks were all originally composed by the backer of this room.
- Over a dozen music box tracks were composed for this room, but it was limited to five due to disc storage constraints.
