The Bovine Plume is a Material in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
Getting three Bovine Plumes to drop from the Haagenti (6%) as soon as you reach the Oriental Sorcery Lab affords you two enormous benefits that you will want to cash in as soon as possible. The first is that one can be freely converted into the High Jump skill shard, permanently unlocking a more direct and flexible method of vertical traversal than Invert. Then, assuming you have the Optimizer passive shard (dropped by the Ocypete in upper Dian Cécht Cathedral) ranked up to 7, two more plumes can be spent to elevate its Rank to 9 and immediately create its Skill Shard equivalent, which will result in a sudden and heavy improvement to your ATK values with all weapons.
Following this, though many more Bovine Plumes can be spent, they are largely for the sake of minor and situational benefits. Eight plumes can be spent to rank up Reflector Ray so that the beam extends much longer; this might not be worth it because it will take longer for the beam to stop extending and allow you to traverse it. Eight plumes can also be spent on duplicate grades of High Jump to slightly increase the jump height, and eight more plumes can be spent on Rank increases of the same shard to give yourself invulnerability frames at the start of the high jump. Two plumes cover the final two ranks of Double Jump for the similar purpose of adding more I-frames to the second jump.
High Jump is removed from your inventory in a New Game Plus playthrough, and so are all Bovine Plumes because they would otherwise allow you to craft High Jump as soon as you have re-earned Double Jump about one third through the game. If you have any Bovine Plumes in a file you are planning to use for NG+, selling them for 407G each is advisable.
Availability[]
- Dropped by:
- Haagenti (6.00%)
Bovine Plumes are dropped by Haagenti, the higher-level variant of the winged cow demon Zagan found exclusively in the Oriental Sorcery Lab. They have a 6.00% base drop rate.
All Bovine Plumes in the player's inventory will be removed on starting New Game Plus: this is to prevent the sequence breaks that would be possible otherwise. It is therefore best to sell them before starting NG+, as the Gold does carry over.
Usage[]
Bovine Plumes can be used to craft the following items:
- High Jump (Bovine Plume ×1, Double Jump ×1 (not consumed))
- Japanesque Umbrella Rank 4 (Bovine Plume ×3, Mithril ×1, Mahogany ×1, Japanesque Umbrella Rank 3 ×1)
Bovine Plumes are used to enhance the following Shards:
- Reflector Ray Ranks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (Bovine Plume ×1)
- Optimizer Ranks 8, 9 (Bovine Plume ×1)
- Double Jump Ranks 8, 9 (Bovine Plume ×1)
- High Jump Ranks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (Bovine Plume ×1)
In total, the player will require 29 Bovine Plumes to max out all Shards that use them: 17 for High Jump (9 to craft copies of the Shard and 8 for Rank upgrades), 8 for Reflector Ray, and 2 each for Optimizer and Double Jump. 3 more are needed for the optional DLC weapon Japanesque Umbrella.
