Game specific information[]
Ritual of the Night[]
Boss Rush Mode can only be played as Miriam or Zangetsu. At the beginning of the game, the player must select between three different Difficulty options: Normal, Hard or Nightmare; each of these will determine the prize earned at the end. Once a difficulty setting has been selected, the player must choose between two Courses: Course 1 or Course 2, each with its own selection of bosses (special/secret and DLC bosses aren't included in these rosters).
- Course 1: Features most bosses from the first half of the main game:
- Course 2: Features most bosses from the second half of the main game:
Once the game properly starts, a timer at the bottom-left corner of the screen will start running to keep track of the time taken to complete the Course. After defeating each boss, the player is teleported to a small break room where they can fully restore both HP and MP by collecting an HP Max Up and an MP Max Up found inside, before heading to face the next boss. Unlike the HP and MP Max Up items from the main game, these only restore the bars to their maximum and don't increase their respective MAXHP and MAXMP stats.
Once all the bosses of the Course have been defeated, the player gains access to a special room with a green treasure chest containing a reward:
- 16-bit Coin - Complete any Course on Normal Difficulty.
- 32-bit Coin - Complete any Course on Hard Difficulty.
- 8-bit Nightmare - Complete any Course on Nightmare Difficulty.
These rewards are one-time only; if the player has already earned the prize item for that Difficulty setting, then the chest will only contain an Ether as a consolation prize. After collecting their prize, the player's elapsed time is displayed on a personal leaderboard and options are given to either retry the Course, select another Course, or return to the Title Screen.
