Bloodstained Wiki

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is an upcoming 2.5D platformer video game developed by ArtPlay, directed by Shūtarō Īda and produced by Koji Igarashi. It is an intended prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night that is scheduled to be released in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

Plot[]

16th-century England drowns in the shadow of the Ethereal Castle and its deadly inhabitants. All attempts to fight this evil have been met with failure and death. In a desperate, final attempt, two heroes rise together against the Demon Lord Elias’ reign of terror: Leonard Brandon and Alexander Kyteler. Leo is a young fighter with the Church’s Black Wolves clan. Alex is a knight of the kingdom’s White Stags and the lone survivor of an earlier expedition to fight Elias.
The duo’s journey will not be easy. The Ethereal Castle is not only filled with lesser demons, but it is also home to the Sanguinaries, demonic lieutenants, each with their own unique and deadly powers. If Leo and Alex have any hope of defeating Elias, they must first unravel the Ethereal Castle’s mysteries and survive long enough to face their final enemy.

Gameplay[]

Like Ritual of the Night, the game will be heavily focused on exploration. In true Igavania fashion, players can make their way around the castle and harness magical abilities that will allow them to advance further. Weapons and armor dropped by enemies will grant them a greater edge in combat when equipped and the crafting feature is slated to return as well.

The Scarlet Engagement introduces a new gameplay feature called the Buddy System, allowing players to take control of two characters simultaneously. They'll have the option to play as one hero while the other will help them in battle and they can switch between either character, a mechanic that was previously featured in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. The Scarlet Engagement additionally introduces a day and night cycle where each period lasts for thirty minutes, but that could be adjusted before the release date. The time of day is indicated by obvious changes in the background and lighting.

Development[]

The game was first announced on June 4th, 2025 in a blog entry written by Question on the franchise's official website. It's unclear if the composers that were involved with the development of Ritual of the Night such as Michiru Yamane will be returning.
