Blood Steal is a Conjure Shard in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
Upon activation, Miriam emits a red pulse and then all blood splatter decals on the screen are absorbed into her body, recovering HP for each one absorbed. Blood splatters are created when striking specific "bloody" enemies, as well as whenever Miriam herself is hit.
This shard is also used to drain the large fountain of blood located at the Entrance and finally open the path below it, gaining with this an alternate access to the Forbidden Underground Waterway. This step is mandatory in order to obtain the good ending of the game, as the path leads to a whole set of new areas below the castle where the story further unfolds.

- Among its other uses, Blood Steal can also be used to upgrade the Grand Izayoi, as the more blood meals Miriam has performed will boost the damage dealt by the sword, up to a maximum of 58 ATK.

The source of this Shard is Bloodless, who absorbs blood as a defining character trait. However, the mechanic works differently for her as a playable character. Her Blood Steal is performed by holding down an assigned button (the same one used for Miriam's Conjure Shards), which will make her strike a standing pose to absorb nearby blood for as long as the button is held down. This allows her to control how much blood she wishes to take, but it leaves her defenseless as long as the move is in use. Unlike Miriam, she can absorb blood from any range as long as it is in the same room as her.
Bloodless cannot absorb blood by default in Bloodless Mode, but must acquire the ability from a Blood Shard that is found after defeating Valac in the Towers of Twin Dragons. Like Miriam, she needs this ability to drain the blood fountain in the Entrance so that she can explore more of the Forbidden Underground Waterway, where she finds the Water Demon's Blood. The Blood Steal only replenishes MP until she upgrades it with the Vampiric Blood in the Secret Sorcery Lab, which makes it replenish HP as well. With the Vampiric Blood, Bloodless can endlessly regain HP on the spot by absorbing leftovers from her own blood-based attacks. In Boss Revenge Mode, the Blood Steal only replenishes MP.
Trivia[]
- The amount of blood in liters absorbed by this shard's effect is tracked as a stat in the Archives.
- This ability is functionally a combination of Dark Metamorphosis and Soul Steal, two spells used by Alucard in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
- Because Bloodless needs her Blood Steal to drain the blood fountain in the Entrance, it is the only red Blood Shard that is strictly needed to finish the game as her.
