Blood Shards are special collectibles that are available while playing as Bloodless in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Description[]

Just like Miriam and Aurora can sometimes find Shard Stands while exploring the Hellhold castle, so does Bloodless. This method is the only way for Bloodless to increase her repertoire of moves as, while bosses often guard such Shards, they themselves do not relinquish anything upon defeat, nor do regular enemies.

There are three major types of Blood Shards, recognizable by the color of the Stand they are set upon:

  • Attack Shards (red stand) – These shards allow Bloodless to perform different moves with her Red Umbrella or to manipulate blood in different ways.
  • Ability Shards (blue stand) – These shards add to Bloodless's movement and survival capabilities, such as surviving underwater.
  • Stat Shards (yellow stand) – These shards increase Bloodless's raw stats.

List of Blood Shards[]

Attack Shards[]

  • Scarlet Thrust – Allows to chuck a splash of damaging blood forward. A second shard allows to hold the associated button for a stronger Scarlet Thrust.
  • Charged Umbrella – Allows to charge an attack with the Red Umbrella, in order to deal more damage and deflect attacks.
  • Umbrella Toss – Allows to throw umbrellas like projectiles.
  • Guillotine Umbrella – During Umbrella Float, the umbrella becomes like a buzzsaw, damaging enemies who come in contact.
  • Scarlet Cyclone – Allows to unleash a cyclone of blood that can be aimed.
  • Blood Pillar‏‎ – Allows the summoning of a damaging blood pillar. A second shard later allows for a second pillar to appear alongside the first.
  • Blood Steal – Allows to re-absorb spilled blood, including that spent by Bloodless herself, to regain MP.
  • Vampiric Blood – Allows Blood Steal to also heal HP.
  • Blood Rain – Allows the summoning of a damaging rain of blood.

Trivia[]

  • They are called "Blood Shards" not only because of the red color of the crystal, but also because they release a blood splatter when broken, and because most of the items contained within them are named or at least themed around blood.
