The Baselard is a Dagger in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Description[]
The Baselard, as a "thrust-motion" weapon with the anti-flier Thrust damage attribute, is a solid upgrade to the Knife you start the game out with, offering +14 attack points over the Knife's +8. You effectively get this as a free upgrade because it lies in a very-easily-reached green chest just past the monster-filled village screen in Arvantville east of the hub area with the helpful NPCs. There should generally be no need to craft one yourself (using four Iron and one Bronze).
The Baselard is one of four daggers that produces the Surprise Gift technique, which has you spending 30MP when you press the Attack button right as you press the directions ↓ ↘ → to throw a fast, horizontal projectile. Slaying enough enemies with this technique to master it will allow you to perform this move with the other daggers in the game — though the fact the game's final dagger, Mandau Pasir (and also its "previous stage", the Carnwennan), has access to both dagger techniques by default undermines the value of spending time mastering this technique.
One crafting recipe allows you to create a Lethal Boots by "fusing" a Baselard with a Battle Boots using two Cotton (found in blue chests in Galleon Minerva and Entrance). The Battle Boots itself is crafted out of Cotton, Houndskin, and Lion Mane, the latter two of which are dropped by the Entrance enemies Gieremund and Sabnock, respectively. Although you can buy copies of the Lethal Boots for 2,700G each as soon as you first gain access to the supply post, crafting one yourself can still be considered as an option if you wish to avoid that fairly hefty purchase price early on. Ranking up the Kick Expertise passive shard (dropped by the Gamigin later on) also requires one Lethal Boots for each of Ranks 5, 6, and 7; buying all three of them would cost a total of 8,100G if you do not craft at least one of them yourself.
Availability[]
- Found in a green chest in Arvantville.
- Can be crafted for Bronze ×1 and Iron ×4.
- Sold in Dominique's shop for 2700G.
Usage[]
While Baselard is equipped, Miriam's attack becomes the "dagger thrust" with a +14 ATK boost and the Thrust attribute.
It is initially capable of the Surprise Gift technique (30 MP, Down → Down-Back → Back → Forward + Attack), which will be passed onto all daggers once mastered.
Baselard is used as a material for crafting the following item:
- Lethal Boots (Baselard ×1, Battle Boots ×1, Cotton ×2)
