Aurora is a playable character in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Originally appearing as the main protagonist in Ubisoft's 2D adventure role-playing game, Child of Light, she was added to Ritual of the Night on Update v.1.3 released on March 31, 2022.
History[]
Caught a mirror bound for home.
Instead, she found her journey never ends,
As she awoke, a child, alone.
A storm outside tossed and raged,
Had she arrived too late?
Through clouds dark, the moon presaged,
A homecoming delayed by fate.
"Why were we summoned to this land?"
She asked, Igniculus near
"Firefly at my side, and Sword in hand,
No evil have I cause to fear.
Oh woe! My friends in the storm; their plight bodes worse
I must find them, and remove this foul curse."
—Aurora's campaign introductory text
Personality[]
Though sometimes mischievous, Aurora is intelligent and is always quick to learn something new, no matter how insurmountable it may appear. She is kind, courteous and compassionate to others, as seen during her interactions with Johannes. However, she can also be quick to anger when provoked, particularly when people lie or insult her friends, although upon arriving to Miriam's dimension, she is initially without any so to speak.
Gameplay[]
Starting a game as Aurora is simple. From the Main Menu, find an open save slot and start a new game. After choosing the save file name, you'll be able to choose your starting character: Miriam, Zangetsu or Aurora.
Aurora has lost her way and awoken in a strange, dangerous new land. Although her friends have also disappeared, Aurora is not alone as Johannes is on hand to help her increase her power by transmuting items found in chests throughout the game.
Aurora begins her adventure with the Sword of Mathildis, the directional Light Ray skill and her trusted friend Igniculus. Igniculus acts on his own and can temporarily slow down enemies or heal Aurora with a flash of light; more copies of the Igniculus "shard" can be found in Shard Stands scattered throughout the Hellhold. The Light Ray uses MP and shines in front of Aurora. Enemies caught in the light lock on will suffer damage; more copies of the Light Ray "shard" are released from most of the bosses encountered.
Throughout her journey, Aurora gains power by defeating enemies and absorbing Shards. The Grade of each ability can be improved by collecting more shards of the same type and, with the help of Johannes, you can level up the Rank. Besides completely filling out the map like with the other playable characters, achieving Max grade and Max Rank for all available shards, is also a necessary requirement to obtain the mark of 100% completion with Aurora. However, the way Aurora obtains Shards is a little different:
- First of all, each of the demon species that can drop a shard can only do it once.
- Second, only after the primary demon associated with one such shard is defeated for the first time, resulting in them always releasing a shard, can the other species associated with that shard begin to have a chance to release it.
Taking as an example the shard Oengus, a special Conjure Shard that only Aurora can find: it is a guaranteed drop from the very first Wolfman that Aurora defeats; afterward, Wolfmen will never release another shard, and instead each enemy that drops the material Orichalcum will now have a chance to relinquish an Oengus Shard, although only once per type. The shards that she can find are actually some of her friends from Lemuria, cursed to take the form of demons: Gen, Rubella, Robert, the above mentioned Oengus, Finn, and Tristis.
After defeating certain bosses, she will grow stronger and gain additional abilities as she ages. Each stage of her progression will add to her movement abilities and unlock previously inaccessible parts of the Hellhold castle:
- Defeating Craftwork will reward Aurora "the stars", a pair of Faerie-like wings, that grant her unlimited flight capabilities.
- Defeating Valac will grant Aurora "the moon", which will make her grow into her adult form; this not only changes the moveset of the Sword of Mathildis from a Greatsword one to a Sword one, but also allows Aurora to sink into water.
- Defeating Orobas will grant Aurora "the sun", restoring her to her full Princess of Lemuria status; she thusly becomes immune to spikes and other traps.
- Defeating Zangetsu at the Oriental Sorcery Lab will make her realize she can now cut the blood red moon of Gremory. After Aurora does so during her fight with Gebel, Gremory flees and the blood red moon appears in the Garden of Silence, granting access to the Den of Behemoths, and thusly the endgame, once cut.
Should Aurora defeat Gebel without revealing Gremory's presence during the fight, either before or after having the means to do so, it will result in a Bad Ending sequence, where the Princess of Lemuria wonders if Gebel himself was also a prisoner of sorts.
Quotes[]
- "Pardon, kind sir. Are you alone in this place?" (to Johannes)
- "I'll keep my eyes open, at your behest."
- "Compare our aims, sir, I believe there is parity." (to Zangetsu after their second fight)
- "Thank you, Hunter. I hear your refrain."
- "A cursed moon haunts Gebel's chamber, / Of that I am certain. / I accept this charge, as his savior; / Reveal the one behind the curtain."

Trivia[]
- Aurora is a popular girl's name that translates to "dawn" in Latin and is derived from the titular goddess in Roman mythology. The definition fits the character's stellar abilities to perform light-based sorcery.
- When Aurora explains that she is from Austria, Johannes correctly identifies it as a part of the Holy Roman Empire, which it was in the late 18th century. However, Aurora is canonically from Austria-Hungary at the turn of the 20th century, long after the Holy Roman Empire's dissolution in the Napoleonic Wars. Aurora does not comment on the gap between her own time and the events of Ritual of the Night.
References[]
- ↑ Aurora is aged 6 at the beginning of Child of Light, so it can be assumed she is about the same age in her non-canonical adventure in Ritual of the Night, although as in the former title, she ages as she progresses through this game as well.
